Remember this video from last April? We met this gentle giant out on our paddleboard at Streedagh Beach in Sligo. This time last year there were lots of sightings of Basking Sharks up here in Sligo, I haven‘t heard of any this far north yet although they are back in other places. Have you seen them?

We’ve been very quiet on here lately! October is the first point in the season where things slow down for us, so we took the time to get away for some relaxation, sunshine, wind and waves ☀️🌊 With Colin and myself managing most aspects of the business ourselves, a few things were much slower while we were away and social media was one of those.
Now we are back in Ireland and we thought this would be a good time to introduce ourselves to our new followers who maybe don’t know us yet 👋
Colin and I have been running Surfdock for more than 10 years now, with the business itself being set up over 30 years ago. From a windsurfing school and shop (on the ship - swipe through the photos to see the old shop) in the early days, we have expanded our range of offerings and now sell equipment and wetsuits for surfing, swimming, windsurfing, paddleboarding, wingfoiling and more. We teach SUP, kayaking, windsurfing and sailing in our busy water sports centre and run a very popular summer camp for 8-16 year olds. We also offer kids parties, school tours and adult group activity sessions at our unique location on the Grand Canal Dock in the heart of Dublin city.

I could do 30 knots on a slalom board with my eyes closed…. but where’s the challenge in that?
And, in 10-15 knots I’d need at least 2m bigger sail in the same conditions.

Full value day in the NW last Sunday. On the road at 04.30 to catch the low tide for the speed course at Bunbeg.
No epic speeds - as wind was a bit too west - meaning we could only use the inside shorter course. Peak mid 43kn.
Then onto the waves at Maghers, where the wind increased and ended up on 3.3s in sunshine / hail showers.
Look at the colour of that water 😍
