The colour story at Lagom House by @thisvacantspace is told as much through material as it is through paint. A stainless steel benchtop that reads almost warm within its setting. Japanese-designed @artedomus Arute Saita tiles bringing a tender green to the dining table. @artedomus INAX Fabe tiles cladding a room-height fireplace, their tonal shifts arranged to evoke a landscape seen from a great distance.

Lagom House by @thisvacantspace is a home of simplicity and imagination. Located in Hobart and backing onto the Derwent River with views to kunanyi / Mount Wellington.
The clients had lived in Sweden and brought that sensibility home with them – a belief that bigger is not always better, and that home should be a supportive, mood-lifting environment.
Rather than adding square metres, they chose to increase the usability and feeling of the space they already had. Colour drenching and tonal, textural material selections feature large in this lovely 120-square-metre home.

At Lagom House, @thisvacantspace approached colour with a view to enhancing wellbeing. Designers Kate Moss and Rose Kiselev proposed a scheme drawn from the surrounding landscape of ocean and mountain – shifting tonally from room to room to offer the residents different settings to suit their mood and moment. Brighter and uplifting in the kitchen and living spaces, quieter and moodier in the bedroom and bathroom. Colour drenching as a form of everyday care.

Creativity has always been a part of @georgina_jeffries ' life. It began with her parents, who worked in the fashion industry. “Dad had impeccable taste and it just ran through everything he did," Georgina says.
"Mum had her sewing machine in the living room, pins all over the floor with clients constantly over, tailoring, and we were always crafting,” she recalls.
In Georgina's own design projects, she seeks to create a harmony between nostalgia, refuge and occasion. “Nostalgia provides depth, refuge offers reassurance, and occasion gives meaning," she says. "Together, they create environments that are timeless, emotionally resonant and deeply considered.”

On @surface_edition today ▪ Little Cove by @georgina_jeffries is a Qld holiday retreat that balances materiality, texture and colour to speak to the emotions.
Grounded by muted tones, Brutalist textures and raw and rendered finishes – designed to withstand the rigours of surf-life, and balance keen entertaining with moments of respite.
“It’s almost muddy in there, with this mushroom tone juxtaposed with this special Calacatta Viola Monet marble that has this energy to it. It was just about getting the right amount of all of these finishes together,” says Georgina.

For the design of Kinross Woolshed @kinrosshotel , @technearchitects has reimagined this historical woolshed-turned-pub into a series of indoor-outdoor spaces. Pick your adventure: bistro, sports bar, gaming lounge, function room, and even a six-lane bowling alley.
Mix in some serious 1980s Aussie nostalgia, and you've found yourself a new favourite watering hole. Technē Architecture and Interior Design has skilfully expressed these bold, graphic references through a hardwearing palette of rustic materials and high quality architectural surfaces.

Kinross Woolshed @kinrosshotel by @technearchitects draws together a wealth of 1980s references, with homages to Australian artist Jenny Kee, as well as a touch of Kath and Kim. There are some serious "CWA vibes” to be found, too. Think, cake-making competitions and agricultural shows.
“You open the door and it’s a breath of fresh air, and it’s vibrant, and it’s colourful… The whole thing just needed a big dose of love put into it,” says Technē's founder, Nick Travers.

@kinrosshotel started its life as a 19th century shearing shed, located in Hume (regional Victoria), before it was moved just up the road to Albury in the 1980s.
@technearchitects has wrangled this multi-faceted venue into a dynamically enticing destination, balancing the raw bones of Kinross Woolshed's timber structure, roof trusses and other rustic surfaces, with modern insertions that hark back to the bold and graphic 80s... with a beautiful selection of designer tiles used in just the right way... in just the right places.
