Montclair High School 9th and 10th graders are enjoying new books purchased from @watchungbooksellers in their classroom library, courtesy of an educational grant from MFEE!
"We placed the books on the desks in our classroom and the students had the chance to walk around like it was a bookstore so they could really familiarize themselves with all of our new titles," said Montclair High School English teacher Dr. Elizabeth Voltman, who wrote the grant, along with her colleague Katelynn Costello. The pair hopes to facilitate book club-style conversations so students can more deeply engage with the texts. We love seeing all these happy readers!
Each year, MFEE awards $60,000 in grants to educators across the Montclair Public Schools. It’s been funding teachers’ big ideas for 35 years, and grants remain a core part of the organization’s mission. Generous donations from our community fuel this work. MFEE was happy to welcome 14 speech and language pathology graduate students from @montclairstateu this week to our bilingual after-school program. They'll be completing their field study hours at MFEE this spring and summer, working 1:1 with several children to strengthen language and literacy skills. The kids were so excited to meet their new friends, and the graduate students blended in seamlessly with our team!
