Water is life. And the decisions being made now will shape our water-supply future for generations to come. 💧
For several years, the @salinasvalleybasingsa and its partners, including the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, have been developing options to address groundwater challenges in our region’s groundwater basins (as required by California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act).
On Wednesday, May 20, at 1:30pm, SVBGSA and its partners are hosting a workshop for deep-aquifer well owners and other members of the public.
They’ll discuss potential groundwater management actions that could significantly impact both our deep groundwater systems and the 180-foot and 400-foot aquifers that supply our communities’ drinking water.
To attend by Zoom: bit.ly/4vcRKiW
To attend in person: Marina Coast Water District, 920 2nd Ave., Suite B, Marina
These discussions — and the decisions that follow — will impact the long-term sustainability of our water supplies, and the availability of reliable drinking water for current and future generations.
This is an important moment to stay informed, engaged, and involved.

The District 4 newsletter just hit inboxes, and here are some of its highlights. 💐
May is Maternal Mental Health Month, and I’m thinking about the ways our community shows up for young families — and how we can do better. Because pregnancy, parenting, and mental health are deeply connected.
The State’s Behavioral Health Services Act directs major funding for mental health and housing services. Join me this Wednesday, May 13, 5–7pm on Zoom or Facebook Live to learn about the County’s draft BHSA spending plan.

At today’s Board of Supervisors meeting, I introduced a resolution to designate Monterey County as a sanctuary for transgender, gender queer, non-binary, gender fluid, and intersex individuals. The resolution, if approved, directs the County not to cooperate with out-of-state efforts to criminalize gender-affirming care. 🏳️⚧️

May is California Tourism Month, and Monterey County is giving us plenty to celebrate.
According to a new economic impact report from @visitcalifornia — shared by our friends at the @mbepartnership — the numbers for our region are strong.
Travel spending in Monterey County hit $3.3 billion in 2025, up from $3.1 billion in 2024. Tourist spending supported 27,800 local jobs and generated $346 million in state and local tax revenue. That money funds public services and keeps our neighbors employed.
Tourist revenue is one more reason to protect and invest in this region’s beauty and culture. Our beaches, farms, restaurants, parks, and communities draw visitors from around the world who contribute to the local economy when they arrive.
I’m proud to serve a beautiful, vibrant county that creates lifelong memories for so many visitors! Link in bio for the full report.

Today is the last day to submit your public comment on the first-ever Salinas Climate Action Plan! 🌎
The plan targets a 40% emissions cut below 1990 levels by 2030, with 21 strategies focused on transportation, building efficiency, and climate adaptation. 🏢
Vehicle emissions make up 60% of the city’s footprint, so expect more transit, denser walkable neighborhoods, and EV incentives. 🚙
Low-income residents, farmworkers, and East Salinas communities are centered throughout.

The heaviest and most controversial issues make the headlines, but it’s important to also celebrate the good things happening in local government every day!
Just in the past week, we expanded our libraries, took action on climate, secured funding for clean water, and supported programs for growing families and seniors.
All of this happens thanks to dedicated County staff, an engaged community, and the elected representatives working for you. Thank you! Let’s keep it going! 📚☀️🌳
On April 14 I brought eight proposals to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors. Together, they aimed to end the use of County resources for cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), protect due process, and create oversight.
The Board wasn’t ready to take action and instead raised new questions. Staff will return with answers on June 9.
Share your thoughts: Comment below, contact your county supervisor, and speak up at the June 9 meeting.
