The nail community is going wild right now over the nail salon representation in @badbunnypr Super Bowl halftime show! I’m popping in to tell you what it was like to be called in as the local SF nail artist to manicure some of his lovely musicians and dancers. Well, it was literally a dream come true. And when I was given the info that there was a scene with nails being done as part of the show I screamed inside because that is a huge deal for the community and for the culture. I kept quiet and prepped as best as I could for anything and everything that could come up. Elaborate, stunning custom press-on nails were shipped from an artist in LA @masterweenay , but unfortunately last minute decisions were made by production that they would not be used. So I went with neutral glam, sparkly looks that could match the earth tones of the set and be executed quickly. It was hectic behind the scenes as you could imagine. But the energy leading up to the show and after the show was electric and the performers and crew were so pumped, ecstatic and emotional. Overall very, very good vibes! How did I land this job? It wasn’t just luck at that point. I’ve been doing nails and running a salon for more than 12 years and I have worked on many sets, ads and celebrities. Early on, I took mostly all the jobs that came my way and did my best to be professional, prepared and ready for anything. Over time, I have built a reputation as a go-to manicurist for Bay Area shoots and performers. If you are looking to get into this kind of work, you have to be flexible and ok with uncertainty of dates, times, locations etc. Things can change quickly and you need to be ready with your kit stocked and the attitude of gratitude. It’s not for everyone and it’s not my primary job, but man it has taken me to some fucking amazing places…like this history making Super Bowl performance by Bad Bunny! I don’t do my nails often, but the @opi_professionals Gelevate system had been calling me from my drawer to try it out for months. With a mini trip on my horizon and my hands looking terrifying - I had to take action 😂. I’m so glad I did because applying the nails at home at 11pm in dim lighting turned out to be so easy! The tips do not require etching and the built in apex was such a time saver. The variety of sizes fit me like a glove - no need to file or customize! I also brought home their gorgeous denim blue gel “Baggy Jean Baby” and busted out a gradient effect by mixing it with clear gel to create a sheer layer to blend pretty seamlessly. This system is making me rethink the full cover soft gel tip brand I’ve been using for so long…(you know the one!)
