The countdown to Commencement continues! 🎓
This weekend, outstanding senior Jocelyn Shatraw ’26 will graduate summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in art.
“Joc is such an inspiring young person. It is a pleasure to watch her strategize and build her future in Psychology and art; SUNY Potsdam gave her the artistic environment she needed,” said Stephanie Russo, owner of @jernabicoffeehouse . “She fills her days with runs, hikes and every outdoor activity you can find in the North Country. Always doodling something fun and crafting unique ceramics, her imagination flows as beautifully as her latte art.”
Jocelyn recently posed for photos in her cap and gown at Jernabi, where she works as a barista, alongside her graduation special: a Honey Ginger Matcha with lavender cream top. ☕💚 The drink is available throughout Commencement weekend at the locally owned coffeehouse!

Working together outside the HEARTH last week—the College’s exciting Hand-crafted, Experiential, Archaeological Research and Teaching Hub—students in Dr. Messner's Experimental Archaeology course brought ancient technology to life. 🌊🛶
Last week, the class constructed coracles—simple woven boats believed to be among the earliest forms of watercraft ever used. Traditionally covered with animal hides, these student-built versions use canvas treated with wood glue to make them watertight before their big launch.
“We’ve been talking about different relationships between people and the environment through time, and how technology facilitates that relationship,” Messner said. “So, they are putting their skills to the test by making these boats, and they’ll be putting them on the water.”
