She began her creative journey as a writer and, in 2020, discovered her love for directing — leading her to write, direct, and produce her own stories as a way to fully bring them to life. Since 2021, Amoona has written and directed eight short films, five music videos, and multiple experimental projects across drama, horror, romance, and comedy. Her work has since led her to directing her first feature film, currently in post-production. Through filmmaking, Amoona allows her life experiences and emotions to take the wheel, using cinema as the space where those worlds can exist. Her journey continues to teach her how to honor her own perspective and give life to stories shaped by her experience as a Sudanese-American woman raised in South Florida. “Homage to my Homeland : Sudan.” From Florida, with love. 📸: @brandenconnelley It’s been 6 years since i’ve been back home and 2 years since the war. The more time passes, the harder I pray for my feet to be planted on Sudan’s soil, انشالله I recently came across a picture on @sudan.zaman (last slide) that inspired these pics & I was lucky enough to have a friend who was down to use his talent to bring these images to life. it’s been a little over a week since i directed my feature film حياتي / hayati. i have a lot of thoughts but i don’t think i have enough words. i want to thank my crew. without you, the words would’ve stayed on a script. having a team means everything and my crew worked super hard to bring this to life, i’m forever grateful and forever changed. thank you to my leads and my overall cast. you made me believe day in and day out. you’re magical. thank you to my family for existing in my world for a little bit. thank you to any and everyone who had a hand in this. those who donated, supported, and overall sent love. i’m forever loving you. i dealt with a lot of obstacles, but none of them bigger than me. lots of doubts, but none of them greater than my passion, lots of voices but none of them louder than my conscience and lots of no’s but no’s sound like “prove’em wrong” to me. i’m where i’m supposed to be. i had something to prove to myself and i did. one of the first Sudanese- American feature film directors sounds about right. alhamdulilah for everything. 📸: @dolapodoesfilm 📸: @brandenconnelley 📸: @shotinartland 📸: @est.ade 📸: @boredasjosh 📸: @tyty_doodles 📸: @kristygirl91 📸: @darn_f
