somehow the beginning of so many things starts at the end of one, perhaps many. james joyce once wrote “some of it is ugly, obscene and bestial, some of it is pure and holy and spiritual: all of it is myself.” here I am, myself, letting it all touch me - never indifferent.
I remember the first time I laid eyes on you. So confident, so fierce, so irrevocably you. We don’t get to choose who or what we’re born into in this world but I believe I chose Morgan the second I saw her. And thus the universe granted us some beautiful years of friendship and sisterhood. My grief is profound, reeling at this immeasurable loss. Morgan is my family, forever and always. She taught me what it means to be a true friend, how to love, how to honor, how to imagine a world that moves towards healing. I know I will look back at my life and say “This is where it happened.” This love - so deep, so pure, so profound. This is where I cultivate all the things I miss about you, into myself. Because you will always be me, and I will always, and for the rest of eternity, be touched by you. I love you Morgan Haigh.
I wrote out a caption probably ten times but really all I have to say is that slowing down this year gave me my life back in ways I will spend the next few years unraveling. Thankful for the softness and care that’s been mirrored to me in this world.
@easssssytiger took this photo of me on the last night of our backpacking trip when we scrambled all the way up to the base of mt hood in our tevas. I’ll remember that evening for the rest of my life and feel so at peace when I look at this photo of me with wy’east..
there is a joy so ancient and immense that it transcends the limits of language. much of my summer has been hand in hand with deeply loving this way 🤍
in my notes app:
- focus on the thing that’s going to collectivize each other.
- the world is a beautiful place and so are its people.
- low tech high life, your attention is your generosity.
- I pray to the earth every day the sun rises, please don’t forget God is everywhere.
film from a very early spring getaway @canyon_cabin with @easssssytiger this year ~ we watched teen disney movies and cooked together, felt the shift in the air from winter to spring and saw some early buds. heard the river roar with fresh melt and came back to the cracking wood in the fireplace to warm our hearts. what a special special place 🤍
LA COCINA, a treasured series.
Step inside the kitchen of friend and colleague Angie Barrios with us as we spend the afternoon with her while she cooks her delicious version of risotto!
