OUT NOW: K-NOW! Korean Video Art Today Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at @masilugano , “K-NOW! Korean Video Art Today” invites readers to reflect on the role of video art as a tool for perception, memory, and the narration of the contemporary. Featuring essays by Francesca Benini (@francescaeleonorabenini ) and Je Yun Moon (curators of the exhibition), as well as Adeena Mey (@adeena_mey ), the catalogue provides an overview of the history of video art in Korea, while also examining the video medium itself and the broader Korean art scene. Interviews with the participating artists—Ayoung Kim (@ayoung___kim ), Chan-kyong Park, Jane Jin Kaisen (@kjanejin ), Sungsil Ryu (@sungsilryu ), Sojung Jun, Heecheon Kim, Onejoon Che (@onejoonche ), and 업체eobchae (@eobchae )—offer further insight into the genesis and significance of the works presented in the exhibition.

The exhibition is part of the DOOSAN International Program, designed to expand the global reach of contemporary Korean art through international partnerships. 디렉터 @chenyuen1314 의 초대를 받아 @tomorrowmaybe_hk 에서 전시와 스크리닝 행사+아티스트 토크를 함께 진행하게 되었어요. 분주한 아트 민속명절을 맞아 재미난 전시와 부대행사들이 많이 열리는군요. 특히 저의 토크 전날 같은 장소에서 열리는 @freeze_magazine 의 밈 토크를 기대하고 있습니다.. @tomorrowmaybe_hk We are delighted to invite the rising star in Korean contemporary art, Sungsil Ryu, to be our residency artist for “After Human: Marks of the Beasts” from 20 Mar to 3 Apr 2024. Ryu will showcase an immersive video installation at the exhibition in Tomorrow Maybe and will also host a screening of her video series featuring Cherry Jang, an online influencer character in her fictional universe, at Kino on March 29th at 5:30 pm. Come and join us as we delve into Ryu’s satirical and hyperbolic narratives, exploring the origins and logistics of desire and fear in contemporary Korean society. About Sungsil Ryu Sungsil Ryu’s work focuses on the mechanics of materialistic desire in modern-day Korea, which is influenced by the complex intertwining of traditional Korean Confucian values and the US-led neoliberal global order.
