Tortured Artist 💐 (2026) This exhibition was a milestone I’ll cherish forever, and I’m still on a high from the love and support that filled the room. Despite the snowstorm, you showed up, and that meant everything to us. It’s a testament to the strength and dedication of our community, and it reminded me why I do what I do. The Distillery Gallery is pleased to present Tortured Artist, a collaborative project by photographers Sun Brown and Yves. Tortured Artist is a visual storytelling project exploring the internal conflicts creatives navigate between self-expression, survival, and societal expectation. Blurring documentary and surrealism, the work moves beyond traditional portraiture to examine the creative psyche as a space of tension, vulnerability, and defiance. At its core, Tortured Artist questions the romanticization of suffering in art, reframing the “tortured artist” not as spectacle, but as a human figure shaped by persistence, uncertainty, and the need to create meaning despite instability.
