Sun Urchins are a three-piece indie punk powerhouse from Providence, Rhode Island. Their debut album Personal Shell taps into isolation and unease, filtered through blown-out guitars and tight harmonies. In 2025 they released Glow in the Dark, an EP that sharpens their focus with a collection of songs woven together like a dream sequence, knowing when to bite and when to charm. Live, they play with an unpretentious, full-tilt energy that turns a cramped room into a minor revelation. Three friends pouring every frayed nerve into songs that lodge themselves in your brain long after the night is over. For fans of Swearin’, Rainer Maria, and The Beths: they bring equal parts grit and heart.
Sun Urchins may very well be the Providence band that we have seen play the most, and they are spectacular every time! They play the (sold out!) show at popfest in the afternoon on Saturday 5/2.
