A Temporary Exhibition of Temporal Public Spaces at Harvard University Graduate School of Design opens on March 26, 2026. Curated by Yun Fu and Yona Chung, this exhibition brings together projects by a dozen or so emerging architects from Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, and Hong Kong—a region sometimes called the Milk Tea Alliance for its shared fondness for the drink and experience of heightened uncertainty. For this generation in their first decade of practice, temporary public space-making has become a defining project type, much as private houses and commercial fit-outs launched earlier generations. The exhibition examines these works through three lenses. First, it explores why this project type has emerged as central to a generation practicing at the forefront of geopolitical uncertainty and climate risks. Second, it examines the expanded design repertoire that has emerged—from reversible construction to innovative use of found objects.Third, the exhibition embraces temporality as both subject and method - the exhibition itself becomes an experience of the temporal public spaces it presents—a counterpoint to how architecture is typically displayed and discussed. Our temporary shading installation for the exhibition is generously supported by Design Trust. Mar. 25 – May 17, 2026 Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. A Temporary Exhibition of Temporal Public Spaces展覽 於 2026 年 3 月 26 日開幕。 Sponsors: Taipei Cultural Center of TECO in New York Harvard University Asia Center, Southeast Asia Initiative . @harvardgsd @fu____yun @yonachung @designtrust . Kwun Tong Industrial History Pavilion recently re-opened at Kwun Tong InPARK this spring. . Interweaving the experience of public art, urban history exhibitions, and public green space, the pavilion provides a place for local residents and working communities to rest, gather, and learn about the industrial cultural heritage of Hong Kong’s East Kowloon neighborhoods. The renovation process involves recycling and reusing existing building elements to preserve a sense of familiarity while enhancing the pavilion with new spatial quality. ‘Re:Tai Kok Tsui” pavilion is a public parasol that creates a respite from the subtropical climate for residents from the community to gather, meet, and enjoy the public space north of Olympian City II. The geometry of the shell is built around the existing palm trees to maximize the extent of shade and shadow while allowing for breezes to move around the public space. We approach every building as a designed whole, from its load-bearing structure to its furniture. Our Objects arise from two parallel motivations: people’s desire for new ways of living and our ongoing commitment to using recycled materials. Most of these Objects are developed in response to specific briefs and are carefully tailored to particular buildings, places, and the people who inhabit them. At the same time, we are fascinated by their potential to resonate beyond the original context of their creation—to find new meanings, new uses, and new audiences elsewhere. Our Objects are developed through open collaborations with creative minds and craftspeople.

#ObjectsSCD Table Room explores how furniture can generate distinctive spatial characters within an otherwise ordinary room. Designed as the new study common for the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at The University of Hong Kong, the space is built around a set of transformable furniture elements that can be reconfigured as tables or display surfaces. These modular pieces support a wide range of learning activities—from seminars and lectures to exhibitions, performances, and community engagement events—allowing the room to adapt fluidly to the evolving needs of students and teachers. The mobile furniture modules can be easily moved and reconfigured using simple hand tools. The stools are designed to accommodate diverse physical needs—ranging from free-standing seats to versions with backrests and grab handles. Together with the redesigned ceiling lighting and audio-visual system, the furniture system creates an open-ended environment that supports future teaching and learning in languages, cultures, and the arts. .
