#jamuary 13: Hi Five Ways to Play Plaits… Part 5, all about arpeggios! The series and track concludes with one of the newer DX7 FM synthesis modes on Plaits. Pamela’s New Workout not only clocks the arp, (once again, with joystick channel E controlling Euclidean rhythm density). It also triggers an envelope every bar for the rising and falling pitch, and another one every four bars to modulate the melody. Channel D modulates the attack time of the pitch envelope, changing the shape of the arp, while Channel C attenuates it, changing the pitch range. Channel B changes the delay time of my stereo delay effect and Channel A injects some urgency in the Timbre of the marimba tone when the song gets louder. JAMUARY 4: Hi Five Ways to Play a Plaits modular synthesizer Part II! Now we’re adding some glitchy noise from Plaits’ Hi Hats mode. MANUAL OVERRIDE is now in control—Channel E still commands the Euclidean rhythm on an external ADSR system envelope. D shifts between harmonic and inharmonic tones. A injects a pitch sequence, while C acts as a trigger to reset A’s sequencer. And B lengthens the hat’s decay envelope. Then we add yesterday’s FORMANT line! What’s next…?
