We gaan met hem in gesprek oa over de Nordstream II en hoe deze duik gemaakt zou kunnen zijn en hoe ook niet, vanuit zijn achtergrond begrijpt hij als geen ander de mogelijkheden en onmogelijkheden van het (extreme) duiken.

🌊 This unique underwater site supports abundant marine life — but it also traps lost fishing gear carried by currents across the rocky seabed and artificial reef structures.
💪 Over two days, a team of 22 volunteers carried out a large-scale cleanup at a maximum depth of 48 meters.
👻 300 kg of ghost gear removed including: gillnets, fishing floats, and lure gear .

👜 What is a purse seine?
🎣 A large fishing net used to catch schooling fish like tuna, sardines, or mackerel.
How it works:
◾️ Set in a circle around school of fish
◾️ Bottom closed with a drawstring “purse”
◾️ Fish trapped inside
⚠️ When lost… it becomes a serious threat.
On the Zimbral Reef 🇵🇹, a purse seine became stuck on the seabed — damaging delicate gorgonian corals.
💪 Thanks to @ghostdivingpt the net was removed and the reef is now clean.

🌊 Scouting the next cleanup site…
🇵🇱 North of Łeba, @ghostdivingpoland explored an unidentified wreck — resting on the sandy seabed.
⚓ Recognised by its exposed propeller, the wreck has become a habitat for marine life — mussels covering its structure and cod looking for shelter.
🐟 During the survey, divers encountered cod fish trapped in fishing lines and gillnets — all safely released.

🇵🇹 Ghost Diving Portugal performed another successful cleanup off the coast of Tróia, at a site known as Zimbral !
This area is home to a rich marine ecosystem — groupers, lobsters, conger eels, and delicate gorgonian coral gardens.
👻 But strong currents also make it a trap for ghost gear.
💪 During a recent operation, a team of 8 divers carried out an underwater cleanup at 36 meters depth.
👻 150–200 kg / ~300 meters of ghost gear was removed.

⚓ 225 kg of seine net recovered
📍 ~100 m² of seabed freed from ghost gear
Built in 1958.
Sunk in 2011.
Still trapping marine life today.
