Affine Dark Science, known for its transmissions on the Helsinki-based radio platform IDA, transfers its cinematically melancholic spirit to a new chapter on its course: The birth of its label. Following the range of the projected sounds from the radio show and their favourites, Laura MRLS will stay on that path by hosting productions of like-minded individuals. The first page of this chapter is written by Menou's debut EP, "Aparigraha," a term used in Sanskrit to describe the stripping down of everything but the essentials, out on October 7th with a remix from Martina Bertoni.
Conceptually, the release, perceived as an invitation for enduring and profound contemplation, impels spiritual synapses. In this attempt to restore the lost focus, Menou expresses her idea with an intensely meditative tincture. With a sense of pure and transcendental displacement, she conveys obscure harmonies as the swirling frequencies of a turbulent haze envelop this cerebral enigma. Delving further into the concept of "Aparigraha," the previously soothing sonic caresses transform into a hauntingly electrifying percussive layer, breaking the chains of mental confinement.
To complement the highly flourishing textural work of Menou, Martina Bertoni reshapes the original composition closer to her classical finesse. While carefully inciting an inherently soulful contrast with the rest, employing an alluringly dramatic and melancholic grace, she ultimately develops an overwhelmingly comforting flow. That purifying, purposefully symbolic EP in its surrounding ambience awakens our innate and confused spiritual self, setting it back to its natural incline. Approached through conscious senses, it outlines a primaeval ceremonial gesture, an ode to the storming tidal waves stimulating meaningful emotions.
