New work for @sandboxfilms from the @grandarmy team! @mai.log and I animated this based on a really wild concept she had; and we are still buzzing with excitement to see it in front of Werner Herzog’s documentary, Fireball, on AppleTV+. Fearlessly art-directed by @lkokay , with @jlhaddad , @sterlingjuandiaz , @juliegash , and @padthaipapi . Check out the full case study to see these animations and tons of other branding bits at grandarmy.com @grandarmy . Check out Fireball on AppleTV+ and keep an eye peeled for more Science Docs from Sandbox! . . . . . #motiongraphics #mograph #motiongraphics_p #graphicdesign #design #animation #aftereffects #motiondesign #filmmaking #film #adobecc #motionart #c4d #motionmate @motionmate #documentary #wernerherzog #branding #logoanimation #cgi

Vacationland is a documentary studio making uncommon films on common ground. Since 2014 they’ve been producing original stories and commissioned works to help make the world make sense. @grandarmy worked with the team at @vacationland to craft a new brand positioning, messaging guidelines, and a comprehensive visual identity system. . I was fortunate enough to work with the team to bring the case study to life with motion. Really psyched about this logo animation, with every frame printed out on my little Epson, crumpled up, creased, drenched with water, tossed into the oven, then scanned back in. More motion to come. . CD’d by @doobaluap and Eric Collins, with this deceptively genius logo designed by @alekblik . Check out the full case study at the @grandarmy website, and see the other amazing work from the dream team. @smrn__sngh @garrettmireles Tristan Hanks @karlimittel @sterlingjuandiaz @skybicycle . #animation #motiondesign #motiongraphics #animation #motiongraphics_p #mograph #aftereffects #motiondesigner #buckuback #film #filmmaking #filmmakers #aescripts

This is JungleGym: a free, browser-based modular DAW that I’ve been building by myself for the better part of a year, that’s meant for musical experimentation, sketching, and play. Visit junglegym.fm on a laptop or desktop and hit “+ Modules” to see for yourself. Link in bio! . There are currently 52 modules. Synths, drum machines, sequencers, effects… Some of it is what you’d expect from a DAW. Most of it isn’t. A generative sequencer built on multiple games of Snake occurring simultaneously. A wavetable synth where the waveforms are procedurally generated from noise fields. A rhythmic comb filter whose bands animate in rhythm and snap to chords. A geometry based bowed string sequencer/synthesizer. You connect them with cables to route audio or MIDI between them, allowing them to communicate. Save and load .jungle project files. Record your session and export as an MP3, WAV, or FLAC file. You can even use your phone as a MIDI keyboard if you visit the same URL on both devices. . Everything you make is yours. No need to make an account, no installs, no paywall. If you DO make anything with it, please share with me! And if you have suggestions for improvements, or would like to get involved, please drop me a line! This is V1, with many more Vs to come.

Additional visuals for HARAM’s 2025 album “Why Does Paradise Begin in Hell.” . Again, made alongside the genius @ectoplasmic_jelly who designed the band’s album artwork (and wordmark in this video), provided direction, and plays in the band.

This is OUROBOROS, a unique digital sequencer built on multiple games of Snake occurring simultaneously, consuming each other and triggering MIDI note information based on a customizable perlin noise “Note Field.” Consuming a target triggers a note. Snake-on-snake collisions trigger note cascades from the point of intersection towards the tail. You control snake count, individual speeds, global speed multiplier, and various controls that will alter the MIDI note field. Collision-based sound design using retro gaming mechanics. Creates a sound that’s bizarre and lovely and unpredictable and surprisingly controllable.

How do you animate a logo that started as a halftoned book scan? Found this BTS from the Los Angeles Festival of Movies @lafestivalofmovies logo animation while I was organizing my hard drives. This original logo was designed by Bobby Sheppard, and it was derived from a rasterized image source, pulled from a book scan on archive.org. When I kicked off the project, I was pretty overwhelmed by the difficulty of making the eye move, but thankfully Bobby helped me track down the original image source. I started by filming my beautiful fiance’s eyeball, and heavily stabilized the footage. By remapping the source-image pixels back to the resulting stabilized footage using Example-Based Synthesis, we get a curiously real, moving halftone eyeball matching the source image. All that’s left to do after that is treat it the same way Bobby did, and rebuild his lockup. The end result is a logo that feels alive. I’m stoked with how it came out. Big thank you to @smudgystuff @zonecatalog and @alex.olderman !
