Still reflecting on what an incredible experience the People & Portraits winners workshop was with Sigma UK and Holly Wren.
To have one of my images selected amongst the ten winning photographs was already a huge honour — but being invited to spend the day learning, creating, and connecting with such talented people made it even more special.
From experimenting with different lighting techniques and approaches to portraiture, having hands on experience with a wide selection of Sigma lenses, to hearing different creative perspectives from the other creators in the room, the entire day was genuinely inspiring. It’s always refreshing being surrounded by people who share the same passion for storytelling through imagery.
A massive thank you to Sigma UK for the opportunity, for making everyone feel welcome, and for taking the time to connect with us all throughout the workshop. And of course, thank you to Holly Wren for sharing your knowledge, guidance, and creative insight throughout the day.
Days like this remind me why I picked up a camera in the first place.

One of the many beautiful things about running our regular pop up space is our slowly deepening connection to community. We meet long time customers, earn new ones, build bonds, chat with like-minded passers by and connect with other local businesses.
A couple of months ago we got lucky in meeting @studioxsea , who allowed us access to their space for the day.
We don’t tend to work with others often, or follow the trodden path. And having spent the last 8 years moving very slowly as a team of 1 (hold for applause) it felt like for the first time we were able to collaborate and deepen skillsets that we’re very self-taught in.
One of the hardest things about running businesses in small teams is that it’s easy to become depleted from stretching yourself too thin. And becomes hard to prioritise which areas to invest energy into.
Pair that with a general distain for tech and modernisation and you’ve got yourself a real cocktail for progress!
I guess that’s what collaboration brings. It opens your eyes to new ways of doing things.
That progress doesn’t have to be scary. And that a little bit of gear, time and thought can yield some pretty amazing results.
We wanted to say a huge thank you to Studio by Sea for providing a comfortable environment to grow and for all the support 🌱
We’re excited for what’s next on the slow road ahead.
