The space is animated by a wallcovering of tangled lilies in teal and copper tones, and a custom chandelier with cascading glass-bead details inspired by jellyfish blooms!

Imbued with a strong sense of gathering, we designed @picala.la for Santa Barbara-based @acmehospitalitysb to feel welcoming and warm while taking care to preserve the visual connection to its urban location. The design unfolds with a carefully composed residential sensibility and a calming color story inspired by the soft hues of natural pigments.
Custom furnishings that marry supple leathers with textural fabrics are set against wide-plank flooring of rustic character oak that softens the scale of the room and grounds it with natural texture.
At the crossroads of the old world and the new, Picala is a restaurant designed for connection.

Working in new markets always brings special challenges but we had a blast working alongside the amazing owner-operator duo of sisters Capucine Frerejean and Juliette Fossorier on the design of our first project in Europe. For their second Cali Sisters ( @thecalisisters ) concept in Paris, they asked us to create a design that channels the ease of a weekend escape in sunny Southern California.
A bright white modernist-inspired brick façade and peacock blue entry set the tone for a light-filled, indoor-outdoor dining experience. Inside, raw stone, breeze blocks, globe pendants, and a 60’s color palette are a cheeky nod to the Palm Springs modernist movement. Anchored by a glowing horseshoe bar and eclectic retro seating, the space is all about relaxed energy, good vibes, and comfort.
