[spatial design] - We didn’t just design a staircase for everyday circulation—we created an architectural experience. Featuring floating steps and window niches, the staircase invites people to engage with shifting patterns of natural and artificial light throughout the day. 【專訪｜翁世俊：建築即藝術 「香港建築物已經有一個文化存在」】 建築為人類文明的象徵，最初建築只為人類提供庇護所。可隨文明進步，人對建築的美感、結構有著更高的追求。建築與藝術間漸漸產生出微妙的連結，建築物的實用與美感之間，先後優次為何？藝術與建築的關係到底如何界定？Sai，翁世俊，作為建築師一直致力將其美學滲入建築設計中，並將建築緊扣城市的歷史脈絡策劃、建構出座座美學與實用性兼備的建築及空間。是次與Sai的訪談，由他親自為我們展示其生涯的建築藍圖，從他與「建築」的起點開始，逐步講述他對建築、藝術以至對新一代教育的看法。 選擇建築的起點 Sai坦言自己最初並非以建築師作成長目標，反而是先對藝術有興趣。「我屋企人嘅Background，有啲兄弟姊妹都係讀Fine Art，就會睇佢哋啲書」，Sai表示因而他便對繪畫產生興趣。至於升讀大學時期選擇修讀建築，Sai則指在排除自己不感興趣的學科後，發現建築當中除包含藝術元素，同時更與科學、歷史有著連結，於是便選擇了踏上建築之路。 建築與藝術之間 對Sai言，建築與藝術有著密不可分的關係：「我覺得建築係一門藝術，我唔會classify建築係一個純科學或者應用科學。」他回憶中學時期於歷史課中已曾聽過「建築是藝術之母」一句；又認識到繪出《蒙娜麗莎》、《最後晚餐》等名畫的達文西亦是建築師，於是「建築是藝術」的概念便植根於Sai腦海。 建築是連結過去與未來的橋樑 Sai的個人網站中寫到一句：「我們相信建築是歷史與未來的橋樑；追溯及認識過去才能帶來真正的創新」，令人好奇對他言新、舊建築間的關係為何、他又因何產生這個想法。「過去同未來唔係一個矛盾嘅存在」，對於Sai言城市的歷史及過去脈絡是作為未來創作往前的啟發點。他認為新建築與舊建築之間需有著一定的聯繫，因失去連結將引伸至人對地方的歸屬感喪失。 與歷史脫節的建築群 造成身份認同問題 他以當代中國建築作為反例，指出於西方建築技術及文化傳入後，中國城市建設速度過快，使城市發展中的「過去」與「現在」元素脫節。不少地方失去了其獨特建築特色及風格變得一式一樣，使人亦失去了與所在城市的身分認同。因此對他而言設計新建築時，於歷史脈絡當中尋找創新是十分重要。 香港建築群與城市空間的特性 談及內地建築群以後，Sai亦提到他眼中的香港建築。相較中國新建築群的急速建設，香港的新建築物現時是仍以一個較慢的速度出現。「香港嘅建築物已經Build-up咗一個文化喺度」Sai言。當宏觀地去觀察香港整體的建築群，Sai認為亦反映了香港的獨特文化，其中「Super High Density」、「Ultra Connection」、「由消費主義形成」都是Sai眼中香港建築、城市空間這數十至一百年來慢慢形成的特性。不過，Sai補充空間的局限同樣是造就香港建築高密度的原因，但這亦是令香港建築設計師在空間延展、變形上有著創新靈感的成因。 於日本感受到另一種建築風格 Sai於職業生涯之初，曾有段時間於日本從事建築設計工作。Sai眼中，日本建築在不同層面上都與香港又或中國的建築有著很大分別。設計上言，Sai認為日本的設計理念會相較著重自然，「日本好多嘅設計都會集中於自然同人之間關係。」他以一個攝影師朋友與他分享的感受解釋，指出在拍攝日本與中國建築時所感受到的「重力」有著兩極的呈現。「影中國嘅建築物時感覺會monumental啲；日本建築影相時感覺會輕盈啲。」 建築設計不再是單一出路 除建築師身份，Sai現時亦是一位教育工作者，於大學作為兼職講師。筆者亦問到他相較自己學生時期，現時修讀建築的環境、未來發展有何不同。Sai認為現時建築系學生在課程上與世界更為接軌，能夠透過網絡有更多機會去學習、認識不同地區的最新建築設計與技術。加上科技的發展，他們能以3D打印、電腦程式設計的科技進行設計、修改、製作模型。不過Sai亦認為現在修讀建築系後出路變闊，例如可以成為遊戲場景設計師等職業，令新一代有意投身建築設計行業的人數變少。 名ADC藝術空間的孵蛋器 Sai的工作室現時處於ADC藝術空間（黃竹坑Landmark South）之中，對他言最大得著是與其他不同藝術家的接觸。「我好多project都會搵其他藝術家畀下意見」，同時於與其他藝術家的溝通期間，亦會從他們從事藝術行業的經歷中獲得新啟發。當叫Sai以一樣事物形容ADC藝術空間（黃竹坑Landmark South）時，他就以「孵蛋器」形容。他解釋：「因為呢度好多嘢都發生，有好多可能性。」因而他作為其中一份子亦期待著於這空間之中將會誕生的一切。 ADC藝術空間（黃竹坑Landmark South） B7工作室— SO-SAI @studioofsai #hkadc #hkadcislandsouth #對話筆對人 #翁世俊 #SOSAI #建築 #建築美學
