SOULSCAPE 경지연 개인전 다양한 원색이 교차하며 완성되는 작가의 작품은 색채의 수만큼 다채로운 이미지를 선사하는 다층적 구조를 띠고 있습니다. 이번 포스터에서는 원작의 이미지를 그대로 재현하기보다, 이러한 작품의 다층적인 면모를 부각하고자 했습니다. 이를 위해 원작에서 특정 색조를 추출하여 단색으로 연출하는 방식을 택했습니다. 다채로운 색의 집합인 원작 속에 숨겨진 형태적 특성과 구조적 깊이를 새로운 시각으로 조명하고자 한 시도입니다. The artist’s work, created through the interplay of various primary colors, possesses a multi-layered structure that reveals as many diverse images as the colors themselves. For this poster, rather than simply replicating the original artwork, our goal was to highlight these multi-layered dimensions. To achieve this, we extracted specific color tones from the original piece and rendered them as solid colors. 이탈리아 국립 카포디몬테 미술관 19세기 컬렉션: 나폴리를 거닐다 / CULTURE AND SOCIETY IN THE 19TH CENTURY COLLECTION FROM THE CAPODIMONTE MUSEUM IN NAPLES 19세기 이탈리아 나폴리를 배경으로 한 본 전시는 당시 '여성의 삶'을 깊이 있게 조명합니다. 이러한 기획 의도를 반영하여, 고전 서양 예술의 섬세함을 지니면서도 현대 전시에 어울리는 간결하고 여성스러운 형태의 영문 서체를 타이틀로 선정했습니다. 한글 타이틀은 이 영문 서체의 조형적 특징을 이식하는 방식으로 직접 레터링을 진행했습니다. 영문 서체가 가진 획의 성격을 한글과 자연스럽게 어우러지도록 다듬는 데 가장 큰 중점을 두었습니다. 특히, 선택한 영문 서체에서 폭이 넓은 알파벳이 연속으로 나열될 때 두 글자가 서로 교차하며 만들어내는 독특한 형태감에 주목했습니다. 한글 타이틀에서도 이러한 특징을 살리기 위해, 비슷한 획으로 끝나는 자음들을 서로 유기적으로 연결해 주었습니다. 이를 통해 영문과 한글 타이틀 간의 시각적 통일감을 부여하고 밀도 높은 조형미를 완성하려고 노력했습니다. Set in 19th-century Naples, Italy, this exhibition sheds deep light on the lives of women of that era. Reflecting this curatorial intent, we selected an English typeface for the title that captures the delicate nature of classical Western art while maintaining a clean, feminine aesthetic suitable for a contemporary exhibition. The Korean title was custom-lettered by adapting the structural characteristics of this chosen English typeface. Our primary focus was on refining the nature of the English strokes so they harmonize naturally with the Korean letterforms. We paid special attention to a distinct visual feature of the English typeface: the unique, intersecting forms created when wide letters are placed consecutively. To translate this trait into the Korean title, we organically connected consonants that share similar ending strokes. <숨쉬는 기계> 전시의 그래픽 컨셉은 '청사진'입니다. 이는 단순한 기계의 설계도를 넘어, 미래에 대한 계획과 가능성을 뜻하는 확장된 의미를 담고 있습니다. 이 전시를 통해 살아 숨 쉬는 예술이 하나의 거대한 청사진으로 그려지기를 바랐습니다. 이를 위해 짙은 파란색의 공간을 구축하고, 작가들의 작품 이미지를 그래픽화하여 불규칙하게 배치했습니다. 결과적으로 기계들은 푸른 청사진의 바다를 자유롭게 유영하는 형태를 띠게 됩니다. 메인 타이틀은 고딕체를 사용하여 기계의 단단한 시각적 특징을 살렸으며, 텍스트의 선명도에 차이를 두어 정형화되지 않은 기계의 다양한 변화 가능성을 담아냈습니다. The primary graphic concept for the exhibition Breathing Machine is a 'blueprint.' This concept extends beyond the literal meaning of a mechanical schematic, embracing a broader vision of future plans and possibilities. Through this exhibition, I envisioned living, breathing art being drawn as one colossal blueprint. To realize this, a deep blue spatial background was established, upon which the participating artists' works were translated into graphics and arranged in an irregular, organic manner. As a result, the machines visually appear to swim freely through a deep blue sea of blueprints. For the main title typography, a solid sans-serif typeface was selected to emphasize the rigid visual characteristics of machinery. Unlike a typical book read in a single direction, introductory sections for both artists were placed on the front and back covers, establishing both ends as starting points for the book. The reading flow was designed so that the reader progresses through each artist’s section from opposite ends and meets at the exact center pages of the book. When one artist’s section concludes, the subsequent pages appear upside down; at this point, the book can be flipped over to read the other artist’s section in the corresponding direction.
