Testing ideas at a project in London through visualisation and sketch; a new framework is designed to bring organisation to an open plan arrangement to the rear of the home. Clerestory windows draw in light above the dining area whilst maintaining privacy from neighbours.
Early design ideas for the comprehensive retrofit of a detached home in North London; picking up on the horizontal datum lines inherent in the mid-century home, extending to create a perimeter datum around the entire site, and subtracting volumes within for courtyards and light wells.
Testing ideas for a new project - physical modelling with plaster, card and ply alongside sketch rendered visualisations. The proposal looks at various ways of tying together a disjointed rear facade, and improving connection from the main interior spaces of the home to the gardens.
Exploring options of how a two-storey outdoor terrace can help connect the raised ground floor living spaces to the expansive gardens below. The upper terrace is used for dining - maximising views over the grounds, while the lower is proposed as an imitate outdoor snug.
Celebrating a lovely feature in @livingetcofficial for Charlie and Josh’s (@opus11 ) home in Clapham - largely designed around the kitchen island and the table as a space to host.

Some fun projects on the drawing board in the studio currently. As well as plans, sections and axonometric drawings we’ve been using more and more perspective sketching at early stage design to help convey the feeling of the spaces.

We recently completed phase 2 of Aperture House, which included bespoke library cabinetry built by @idlefurniture in the centre of the ground floor, offering glimpses through the house. The fireplace was clad in beautiful handmade tiles by @sarah_balineum

We’ve been working on concept diagrams and sketch renders for the reworking of a unique coach house in Hampstead. The proposal includes a large side extension to draw circulation and services out of the original footprint, freeing the main house (and new basement) to become a sequence of interconnected split level spaces for living, cooking and gathering as a family.
Hampstead is an area with an interesting modern art history, with Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson as key residents and local figures. Our facade studies were informed by this, including the ‘relief’ drawings and models of Nicholson, exploring composition, materiality, aperture and the interplay of light and shadow on planar surfaces to create a proposal that is rooted within its context.

Transformation of a derelict Victorian terrace in south west London. A new concrete framework was installed behind the facade to create an open plan lateral living arrangement, with the courtyard acting as an extension of the rear living space. A cast concrete stair from ground to second floor was designed with mild steel balustrade, around double height spaces to bring natural light into the centre of the home.

Externally, a series of stone additions contrast with the existing fabric of our Cambridgeshire country home project, creating a sculptural presence in the landscape. Internally, a subtractive design approach carves out double-height volumes, celebrating light, space and vertical connection.
