Every space tells a story - and light plays a defining role in how that story is experienced 🖤
On the International Day of Light, we reflect on the ability of lighting design to influence mood, highlight architectural intent, and create meaningful connections between people and place.
Through a balance of creativity, detail, and technical understanding, lighting design has the power to shape environments that feel intuitive, engaging, and memorable long after sunset.
At Studio Lumen, we believe great lighting should feel effortless - seamlessly enhancing architecture while elevating the experience within it.

In heritage and cultural spaces, lighting should feel as though it has always belonged 🤝
At Studio Lumen, our approach begins with understanding architecture on its own terms. From there, lighting becomes a careful response rather than an imposition.
In these settings, restraint is essential. Light should reveal craftsmanship, materiality, and detail without overpowering the character of a space. Regardless of the setting, lighting shapes emotional experience as much as visual clarity.
Thoughtful lighting creates a bridge between people, architecture, and history - revealing spaces with sensitivity, precision, and respect 🖤

It’s often the finer details that make the biggest impact 🩶
The precise angle of a beam. The balance between light and shadow. The way colour temperature shifts the atmosphere of a space. Every detail plays a role in shaping how people experience an environment.
At Studio Lumen, we know that exceptional lighting design goes beyond illumination. It’s about carefully considering how light interacts with architecture, materials, textures and people to create spaces that feel intuitive, immersive and memorable.
From concept through to final installation, attention to detail is what transforms a lighting scheme from functional to truly extraordinary.

Light designed with people in mind 🤍
For Studio Lumen at SIRO One Za’abeel, the Wellness floors were an opportunity to explore how lighting can actively support wellbeing, shaping not just how a space looks but also how it feels and functions throughout the day.
From energising workouts to restorative moments, the scheme responds intuitively to human needs. In high-performance areas, dynamic, movement-responsive lighting drives focus and motivation, while in lounges and treatment spaces, softer, circadian-aware tones encourage relaxation and recovery.
Rather than being layered on, light is seamlessly integrated into the architecture, creating a calm, cohesive environment defined by balance, contrast, and clarity.

BAPS Hindu Mandir: A Sacred Language of Light ✨
Studio Lumen’s lighting design for the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi goes beyond illumination - it becomes a narrative shaped by symbolism, spirituality, and experience.
Inspired by the five great elements, the scheme uses light to reveal craftsmanship, honour ritual, and create moments of reflection within this extraordinary sacred space.
From softly diffused layers to precise, low-glare detailing, every element has been carefully considered to enhance both architecture and atmosphere. The result is a harmonious balance of cultural authenticity, technical precision, and sustainable design.
Light here is not just seen, it’s felt 🤍

Studio Lumen have been featured in the latest issue of A1 Lighting Magazine 🖤
In the ‘Lighting Places of Worship’ feature, Siddharth Mathur, Partner & CEO, explores the role of light as more than illumination.
Drawing on our work at the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, the Emirates’ first traditional Hindu temple, the feature highlights how careful, considered lighting can enhance architectural detail while preserving the sanctity and symbolism of the environment.
From layered illumination to discreet, low-glare integration that respects both heritage and setting, the article reflects our approach to balancing technical precision with narrative and empathy.

Lighting rooted in place ✨
Set within the desert dunes of Dubai, Bab Al Shams Spa has been reimagined as a sanctuary of calm, where light plays a quiet yet powerful role in shaping the experience.
Studio Lumen’s approach was simple: use light with restraint and intention. By day, natural light reveals the richness of materials, while subtle accents enhance depth and texture. By night, the scheme transitions to warm, low-level illumination, echoing the tones of the desert at dusk and creating a deeply restorative atmosphere.
Through careful layering, seamless integration, and intelligent controls, the design defines space without boundaries – supporting wellness, sustainability, and a true sense of escape.
Discover how light can transform hospitality spaces into immersive, sensory experiences.

At SIRO One Za’abeel, lighting goes beyond illumination - it becomes a tool for wellbeing 🤍
Studio Lumen’s design for the Wellness floors creates an adaptive environment that energises, restores, and guides. Dynamic, movement-responsive lighting enhances performance in the gym and spinning studios, while warm, circadian-aware tones bring calm to lounges and treatment spaces.
Seamlessly integrated into the architecture, light is embedded within the design rather than applied to it - delivering a clean, intentional aesthetic shaped by contrast, diffusion, and precision.
Sustainability is central, with efficient LED technology and intelligent controls responding to occupancy and daylight to reduce energy use.
The result is a holistic lighting experience that supports both human performance and emotional well-being - setting a benchmark for wellness-driven hospitality.

Lighting design is shaped by more than just space 🖤
In the final clip from the @lyte_i – LytePOD interview, Siddharth Mathur, CEO and Managing Partner at Studio Lumen, reflects on the influences that inform the approach to lighting design - from culture and context to personal experience.
Every project carries its own story. The way we perceive light is deeply connected to where we come from, how we live, and what we value.
Great lighting design responds to that. It’s not just about illumination, but about creating something that feels authentic to its environment and the people who experience it.
The most meaningful designs don’t just light a space - they connect with it.

Lighting design is never just a job 🖤
In the next clip from the @lyte_i - LytePOD interview, Siddharth Mathur reflects on the level of dedication that truly great lighting design demands.
It’s not something you switch on and off - it’s a constant process of thinking, refining and pushing ideas further.
Behind every well-lit space is a commitment to detail, to precision, and to getting it right - even when that means going back to the drawing board again and again.
Because lighting isn’t just about results. It’s about care, persistence, and a genuine passion for the craft.
