Delicious Deep Buttoning... A technique originally used to keep the inside fillings in place. Today, it is used more for aesthetic purposes. Here I have used the technique on an upholstered box. With the buttons set satisfyingly deep, it brings a quiet, tactile luxury to the space. The fabric is @romo_fabrics Linara range. #upholstery #journaling #quietmoments #furnituredesign #upholsterylife #traditionalcrafts #modernupholstery

Anyone else have an unhealthy chair obsession? A new traditional upholstery project soon to be started — this Victorian iron-back. I'm relishing the delicious mix of elegance and strength in the lines of this chair. Prepping myself for a whole lot of hand-stitching to bring this beauty back to life. Thanks to @asunolivanphoto whose tips I used to get a well lit photo! #traditionalupholstery

Popped into @Sothebys , as you do, for London Craft Week. The ceramics in the exhibition were extraordinary. Admittedly, I know far less about ceramics than I should, but now I know a little more. Sotheby's hosted a symposium called Making Matters consisting of a series of interesting talks centred around the importance of supporting and championing craft. I loved hearing about the @hugoburgefoundation , Clay1A , @firedup4clay and the Michaelangelo Foundation. I was particularly interested to hear about @homofaber 's initiative to support young craftspeople to develop their skills and collaborate in workshops in Venice. What a dream opportunity for young makers. #londoncraftweek2026

This elegant little tub chair needed some love. It has been transformed with @linwood_fabric Westray. I believe the chair was made around 1930s. But the cabriole legs are telling a story, maybe revival? Would love someone to comment if I'm wrong. This commission was completed in collaboration with @bayandhazel_upholstery , another Bristol upholsterer — a way of working I'm increasingly excited about.

Upholsterers reporting serious health conditions they believe are linked to the flame retardant chemicals found in the fabrics and foams used in British sofas every day. MS, fertility problems, immune issues. Not from dramatic exposure, but from years of consistent exposure. The Sunday Times investigation also highlights the risks for consumers and children living with this furniture. The chemicals don't stay in the sofa. They migrate into household dust and into the air we breathe. The reach of British flame retardant regulations extends to workers in other countries, who are making furniture specifically to meet UK requirements ---- people who bear the health burden of rules they have no say in. The UK's flame retardant rules for furniture are currently under review. It's long overdue. Opting for second hand furniture and upholstering with natural materials creates furniture that is as good as new but without the chemicals. Thank you for speaking up and for all your hard work @bsjack14 @delythfd @vintiqueupholstery and the person in Indonesia who wished to remain anonymous. @thetimes #flameretardants #furnitureindustry

A bespoke window seat cushion, made to measure bedroom window seat. Hand-tufted and filled with natural wool — toxin free, breathable and built to last. The fabric is from Designer's Guild, with a nod to the French mattress. This is exactly the kind of commission I love — a considered piece made for a specific space, using natural materials. 🪡 Bespoke window seat cushions from £POA 📩 DM or link in bio to get in touch #windowseat #bespokecushion #interiordesign #naturalinteriors #woolinteriors #designersguild #bristolmaker #handmade #slowliving #sustainableinteriors #frenchinspired

This American rocking chair was in a bad way. Now it has been transformed! With new upholstery, a more substantial seat and backrest, and this gorgeous terracotta check that feels completely at home on a Victorian frame. #upholstery #transformation #furnitureflip

I am really proud of this Victorian scroll arm sofa transformation. It has been traditionally upholstered with @butefabrics Java 100% wool fabric. I used as many natural materials as possible, however, I recently discovered that the coir is FR treated. I still feel that it is a million miles better than foam, but nevertheless something to look into for my next traditional project. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Shout out to @bluevanart whose glorious paintings provided the perfect setting for the final photo. #traditionalupholstery #furniture
