In The Joust, RMIT designer Iris Christke reframes 16th-century European armour as a study in emotional protection. Plate-inspired shoulder and knee forms echo the imposing silhouettes of full body armour, yet the use of couch elements and upholstery materials softens the impact, shifting the narrative from defence against weapons to the quiet barriers we build within ourselves. The clash between rigidity and comfort gives the collection its sculptural tension, historical signifiers reworked for a contemporary, intimately human context.
