Hi, I'm David Helmick. I'm excited to share a bit about my journey in architecture! It started at Southwestern College, where I became fascinated with the design process. I continued my education with a Master of Architecture from NewSchool of Architecture & Design. I am particularly interested in how passive design strategies can be used to create beautiful and efficient spaces. When I'm not busy as a band-dad, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors and traveling with my family.

Prepare to be wowed! 8th & U is a new gem right in the lively heart of Hillcrest. This project brings 90 brand-new homes to the community, adding a welcome new addition to the neighborhood. Developed on a 10,000-square-foot site, the 8-story building maximized density while ensuring livability and access to light and views. One of the standout features is the luxurious spa-pool deck on the penthouse level, offering a perfect retreat and breathtaking views of the surroundings and mountains beyond. With its thoughtful design, 8th & U not only catches the eye but also elevates the entire living experience! Developer: @greenline_dg GC: @econconstruction Interiors: @tecturestudio

Check out the stunning Iris at San Ysidro! Captured brilliantly by @breadtruck.films , this new project offers 100 affordable rental units in a prime location, conveniently close to transit, schools, and parks. This four-story building surrounds a central courtyard with community meeting spaces and a safe play area for children, serving very low-income residents, including those needing permanent supportive housing (PSH). The design enhances the surrounding environment, with a colorful façade facing the MTS Trolley line that evolves as one moves along it. The vibrant panels on the balconies overlook Dairy Mart Road and the nearby community park, creating an inviting atmosphere. Developer: @national_core Photography: @breadtruck.films

🌟 Meet the Intern, Uriah🌟 Hi! My name is Uriah Ho. I recently graduated from the University of San Diego, Majoring in Architecture. Coming from Singapore, it heavily influenced my love for architecture and incorporating greenery into buildings, creating an ecosystem within the architectural infrastructure that benefits both the sustainability of the building and its surroundings. I am passionate about the psychology behind architecture and how thoughtful design draws people to flock to a building or space. Outside of architecture, I love traveling, experiencing different cultures, hiking, climbing, snowboarding, videography and editing, video games, pool, and soccer.

Well said @breadtruck.films Repost from @breadtruck.films • Concrete, wood, and cheerful yellow tile greet the residents at the entrance of the Cuatro Affordable housing project. Once past the front gate, the space opens up to a peaceful courtyard and sky beyond. This is a very special project for the community and it is a pleasure to use photo and video to communicate the impact of the housing project. 🎉 Welcome to the team, Francesca! 🎉 We're excited to have Francesca join us. Originally from Milan, Italy, she graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic and received her license in 1996. After relocating to San Diego in 2001, Francesca has worked with various local firms and earned her professional license, as well as LEED AP and California Interior Design certifications. Her impressive experience spans architectural and interior design, historic building renovations, and urban planning. We're looking forward to seeing all the great things she'll accomplish here! Not only is she passionate about design, but her love for animals shines through in her volunteer work at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. In 2024, she expanded her expertise by attending the Professional Course in 'Pet Design'—a program focused on creating spaces that elevate the well-being of both people and their furry friends.🐾

Iris has made a colorful splash in this week's @sdbusinessjournal ! Following its grand opening last month, this new development has introduced 100 affordable homes to the San Ysidro community, transforming lives and the neighborhood! With a thoughtful mix of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units, it features 15 permanent supportive housing units, 50 units designed for enhanced mobility access, and 5 units that are hearing-accessible. Additionally, a well-designed community center creates an inviting atmosphere for residents. All of this is ideally situated along MTS and bus lines, with a beautifully renovated public park just steps away. This is more than just housing – it's a bright new beginning for the community!
