We are honored to be recognized as the 2025 Massachusetts Architectural Innovator of the Year, a statewide distinction conferred and signed by Governor Maura T. Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kimberley Driscoll as part of Massachusetts Clean Energy Week, organized by the Northeast Renewable Energy Coalition [NREC]. This award celebrates innovation in architecture that advances environmental responsibility and community impact.
Presented by Mark Fischer, General Manager of The Liberty, the honor recognizes studioDSK’s visionary approach to sustainable architecture and design, showing how sustainability and stunning architecture are powerful partners, not competing goals.
President Tom Kearns and Jim Newton, Director of Advisory and Planning, accepted the award on behalf of studioDSK. Amy Sheehan Latva-Kokko, studioDSK Director of Sustainability, spoke on the Building Massachusetts’ Clean Energy Future panel during the week’s events, sharing insights on how thoughtful design can shape a more sustainable future for Massachusetts communities.
Special thanks to Kristin Rode, Executive Director of NREC, for her leadership in organizing Massachusetts Clean Energy Week, inspiring collaboration and progress toward a cleaner, more resilient future.

Exciting progress is underway on the expansion and renovation of Duke University’s Lilly Library! With site utility work nearly complete and the building structure in place, construction has moved ahead quickly on the new addition.
The historic building has been reroofed, windows have been beautifully restored, and the interior renovations are actively transforming the spaces. We can’t wait to see the revitalized Lilly Library in late summer 2026!

We brought the DSK team together at the scenic Duxbury campus of Island Creek Oysters [ICO] for our 2024 Bi-Annual Meeting.
The day featured facility tours where we learned about oyster cultivation and ICO’s incredible global impact on sustainable aquaculture. We also got the chance to tour the recently renovated Raw Bar, Annie Mac House, Winsor House, and Richard’s House and had some amazing oysters and food along the way. Thank you @islandcreekoysters for hosting DSK and teaching us the proper oyster shucking form! 🦪

The Lookout's continuous floor and ceiling planes draw the eye outward, emphasizing the views. Rich walnut millwork and wood windows foster a harmonious dialogue with the landscape, while custom cabinetry enhances the home’s seamless modern aesthetic. White painted surfaces and stunning marble counters reflect light, creating an expansive feel and allowing the vibrant colors of the exterior landscape to permeate the interior. Operable windows provide opportunities for natural ventilation, contributing to a refreshing and airy atmosphere. South-facing deck and louver system protect interior spaces from overheating. Photovoltaic Panels are discreetly integrated on the flat roof to hide them from view. #studiodsk

Located on waterfront property on an inlet of Stage Harbor, the main house is comprised of an open floor plan with 4 bedrooms, a 2 1/2 car garage with a 2nd-floor guest suite, and a large 2nd-floor deck with an integral screened porch to take advantage of the magnificent water views offered by this location.
The architecture of the home takes its cues from the more intimate and informal cottages of Chatham’s storied past. One of the more unique features of this home is that primary living spaces are located on the upper story to take advantage of the views.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. They believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. DSK volunteered for a build day in Westford, MA this past Friday. Our team worked on demo in the preliminary steps towards the renovation of the historic Drew Farmhouse Barn. The finished barn will house two families in a 3 bedroom affordable condo.
