It was on a glorious Friday morning that we headed across the sea into Desaru Coast (
@desarucoastmalaysia ) for the 2025 edition of Ombak Festival (
@ombakfestivalmy ), on assignment for AUGUSTMAN (
@augustman ).
At The Westin (
@westindesaru ), the Carbon KL (
@carbon.kl ) crew - chefs David, Yeoh and Hun Yan, had already taken over the kitchen. Fire met finesse; smoke curled and shimmered in the air. Every plate arrived like a scene - crafted, fleeting, and full of intensity.
By dusk, we followed the scent and sound toward Pasar Seloka (
@pasarseloka ) - part night market, part carnival of flavor. Fulltank’s (
@fulltankkitchen ) burgers sizzled on the grill, Ribena (
@ribenasg ) soda brought on a hit of nostalgia, and we gathered around mkuking’s (
@mkuking.jb ) grilled corn - buttery, charred, sweet with spice, herbs and smoke.
And when the night turned electric, Flight Facilities (
@flightfac ) took the stage at Ember Beach Club (
@emberbeachclub ). Waves on one side, lights on the other - the sand became a dance floor, the sky a ceiling of stars.
A day that began with calm water ended in rhythm and flame.
Ombak, after all, means "wave".
