Check out the new junior playspace at Berhampore School! 🌿
Designed as a richly layered, nature-based environment, the new junior playspace supports tamariki as they play, explore, and learn. We worked closely with the school’s teachers and students to transform a tired courtyard into a place that reflects both the surrounding landscape and the ideas of those who use it every day.
The design responds directly to tamariki input, with a new sandpit, a tucked-away whare for storytelling, and play trails that encourage movement and challenge through balancing, steppers, and tunnel elements. A kitchen garden and outdoor classroom support creative and sensory learning, while accessible pathways and native planting bring the space together.
Set within the valley landscape of Berhampore, Wellington, the playspace reflects the school’s values of care, connection, and kaitiakitanga. The project was made possible through the generous support of the wider community.
Ngā mihi nui to Berhampore school for their openness and imagination throughout the process, and to the wider project team whose mahi brought the vision to life.

On ANZAC Day, we pause to remember and honour those who have served, and those who did not return.
For the past four years, we’ve had the privilege of contributing to the seismic strengthening and refurbishment of the National War Memorial, a place of deep national significance and the focal point for remembrance in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our work has focused on helping ensure the Memorial can endure for future generations, while carefully respecting its heritage values. Strengthening the bell tower, introducing seismic resilience measures, and refurbishing the Carillon and Hall of Memories were all undertaken with minimal visible change, preserving the character and meaning of this important place.
As the Memorial reopens to the public this ANZAC Day, for the first time since 2020, we’re honoured to see it once again at the heart of the nation’s commemorations.
We gratefully acknowledge Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage, along with the contractors and consultants who contributed to this project, including Maycroft Construction, TSA Riley, Holmes, Barnes Beagley Doherr, and Silvester Clark.
We also acknowledge the ongoing support and involvement of Wellington City Council and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga.
We’re excited to see construction now underway on Manawatū House, a new rural home on a working farm near Feilding, with expansive views to the Ruahine ranges ⛰️
Taking cues from local farm sheds and woolsheds, the house is a single, pared-back form expressed in a restrained palette of corrugated metal, timber, and concrete, lifted through crisp detailing. Inside, it becomes warmer and more intimate, with dark tones and reused timbers that bring a working-shed character to key living spaces.
Designed in close collaboration with the client, our architecture and landscape teams are working together to shape both the house and its setting.
Native planting and site restoration have been underway for a couple of seasons, helping the landscape establish as construction progresses.

Senior Principal Marc Woodbury is speaking at the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering Conference this week.
His presentation, ‘Architecture of Movement’, brings an architectural perspective to conversations about sustainability and seismic resilience. Drawing on recent projects, Marc explores how decisions around seismic movement influence the long-term performance of buildings, and what a ‘long life, loose fit’ approach can offer.
The talk looks beyond ratings and metrics, focusing on how buildings move, adapt, and endure over time, and the everyday implications of those choices for people and places.
If you’re attending NZSEE, we hope you can join the session.
Architecture in Focus | Kāpiti House | Studio Pacific Architecture
Kāpiti House by @studio_pacific is shaped by its wetland setting, where architecture is designed to sit lightly within a restored landscape. Positioned along a contour, the home balances exposure to views with protection from coastal conditions.
A barn-like form with deep eaves replaces conventional walls, creating shade while maintaining openness to the surrounding wetlands and sea. Internally, honest materials and layered textures create warmth and a lived-in, adaptable retreat.
Kāpiti House by Studio Pacific Architecture reflects a thoughtful approach to living within the landscape. Explore the full project, discover the products, and connect with the professionals — all on ArchiPro.

A defining feature of an award-winning home.
Designed and built by Pinnacle Pools, this pool is more than an addition. It’s an integral part of the home. Shaping the outdoor experience and anchoring the connection between architecture and landscape.
Following the natural contours of the site, it settles seamlessly into place, framing long views toward the surrounding hills and creating a sense of calm, continuity, and space.
As the Green Home of the Year 2026, this home reflects a holistic approach to design, where every element is considered, purposeful, and deeply connected to its environment. The pool plays a central role in that vision.

It’s been wonderful to see central Wellington energised by the recent reopening of Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui – Wellington Central Library. Congratulations to the Athfield’s team on the thoughtful renewal of an important community space for the city!
Studio Pacific is pleased to have played a supporting role, with Principal Lianne Cox providing heritage advice to help shape an approach that retained much of what people remember and value, from custom furniture and light fittings to familiar materials, retained stairs, and carefully reworked balustrades.
Since closing in 2019 for seismic strengthening, residents and visitors have been eagerly awaiting the reopening of this much-loved Category 1 heritage building. Congratulations again to Athfield Architects Ltd, co-design partners, LT McGuinness Ltd., Wellington City Council, and the wider consultant team on such a positive outcome for Wellington.
Green Home of the Year 2026 | Kāpiti House by Studio Pacific Architecture
Set a kilometre or so from the Tasman Sea, on the rural edge of the Kāpiti Coast, this abode has all the accoutrements that ignite the imagination many city slickers project onto country living: pastoral walks serenaded by native birdlife and the roaring sea in the distance, orchard harvests, slow rural time surrounded by paintings, good food, and boisterous acquaintances.
According to official documents, this property is on a living remnant of an ancient landscape that once stretched between Levin and Paekākāriki. Across the sandy plain, the land gathers water and attracts an amazing array of natives, some obscure, others less so.

Kāpiti House has been named Green Building of the Year at the 2026 Home of the Year awards 🌿
Set within 16 acres near the Kāpiti Coast, the house is designed as a rural retreat for whānau and friends. It brings together careful planning, low-impact construction, and long-term environmental thinking in a way that is practical and deeply personal.
The home supports a lifestyle centred on kaitiakitanga, which includes food production, water independence, and ongoing care for the land. Regenerating wetlands, planting, and a productive garden all contribute to the ecological health of the site. This recognition acknowledges our approach to low-impact housing that brings together performance, resilience, and everyday liveability.
Thank you to @homeofarchitecture.co.nz for the recognition, and congratulations to all finalists and winners.

Green Home of the Year 2026 — Kāpiti House by Studio Pacific Architecture
This home on Kāpiti Coast knows its place, not just as a shelter for its people but as a small part of a much wider whole.
Set lightly within a rural clearing, the buildings sit among wetlands, gardens, and productive landscapes that support both biodiversity and food growing.
The house itself can operate off-grid, with careful material choices, low embodied carbon, and passive environmental design guiding every decision.
