Mieke Smet toont in haar werk de fragiliteit van het leven via vouwen en structuren. Haar project Reflections on water onderzoekt de stijgende zeespiegel door foto’s in bronzen gaas te vouwen, waardoor de kwetsbaarheid van onze wereld tastbaar wordt.

Is recycling an art installation a good idea?
I certainly think so!
Some time ago I made a temporary art installation called Dark Clouds Bright Clouds. It invaded
the overhead oil pipelines of Blue Gate Antwerp Business Park
Why clouds? I was fascinated by the process of extracting CO2 from the air and spinning thread
with it, a process developed by Paris company Fairbrics, a kind of a cloud cleaner☁️
The material of the installation is polypropylene that was already used in an industrial process of
pleating. Convinced that the art installation could continue its circular life, I went searching for a
way to give the sculptures yet another form
I found the right partner: Paneltim, a company that produces plastic panels and has a very
strong focus on circularity and sustainability. They will transform the clouds into new panels
Circular art is possible!
I definitely would love to initiate other Circ'Orimi projects🍀
