We consider lampshades to be one of the most important elements of any projects. Light is everything, especially in dim environments or during the evening hours, where the quality of illumination provided by lampshades can significantly impact the ambiance. Fabric shades always provide the softest, most flattering light. They also serve as another way to subtly embellish a space. In the primary bedroom at our Briarcliff project, a pleated silk shade dresses up a pair of blanc de chine lamps on the bedside tables while the sconces are made from linen and a piece of embroidery from an antique textile Lauren had long been saving. Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photo: @williamwaldronphoto Styling: @mieketenhave

Lauren’s sun room in Southport was drenched in blue— from the walls to the curtains, to the gingham slipcovers on the furniture. The floor to ceiling windows brought in so much natural light, it became the room everyone wanted to hang out in. Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photo: @williamwaldronphoto Styling: @mieketenhave

Don’t forget to look up! The incredible ceiling in this early 1900’s house in Briarcliff Manor is punctuated by a contemporary, sculptural ceiling light, ushering this home into the 21st century. Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photo: @williamwaldronphoto Styling: @mieketenhave

This rare 19th Century Irish elm wake table was one of our favorite finds for this house in Westchester. The French Empire chairs were selected for their elegant silhouette, and we stripped them them to add contrast and a level of informality to the room. Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photographer: @readmckendree

In this family room for a young family, we wanted to blur the line between indoors and out. It's a great trick, you know, to paint your windows green! Westchester Colonial, Summer 2021 Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photographer: @readmckendree

Children's rooms are some of our favorite spaces to design. The ceilings may be low in this bedroom, but that didn't stop us from installing a canopy bed. Adding one to a room with low ceilings can actually make the space feel taller by drawing the eye upward. We designed a built-in window seat to create a sweet reading nook, and added a pair of chairs to encourage little friends to gather and chat. Greenfield Hill, Fall 2024. Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photo: @williamwaldronphoto Styling: @mieketenhave

This is the primary bathroom of a house we designed last year. It had been renovated not long before we arrived, but unfortunately, not to our (or our client's) taste. Wanting to make changes without being wasteful, we removed the tile on the walls and replaced it with elegant wood paneling. We adjusted the lighting, designed integrated vanity mirrors, but kept the original sinks and fittings as they were. Swipe for the before. Briarcliff Manor, Fall 2025. Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photo: @williamwaldronphoto Styling: @mieketenhave

A favorite living room for a family with four young children. The embroidered fabric of the curtains inspired the color story for the room, while a mix of continental and American antiques, alongside plush upholstery create a space that's equal parts elegant and livable. A room you can actually use! Westchester Colonial, Summer 2021 Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photographer: @readmckendree

A detail from the primary bedroom of an exquisite pair of Laverne patinated bronze side tables from the 1960's with Italian modern chairs (also from the 60's) upholstered in a plush purple velvet. They sit on top of a handwoven area rug in green and gold. Briarcliff Manor, Fall 2025. Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photo: @williamwaldronphoto Styling: @mieketenhave

In this Candela building on Park Avenue, we had the opportunity to curate a collection of pieces from some of the greats! A moss green velvet upholstered Jules Leleu sofa, Jansen side table with integrated standing lamp, Gio Ponti coffee table, and a sculptural chair by Eric Bertil Karlen. Off the dining room sits a little home office, formerly a bar prior to renovations. Park Avenue, Summer 2025. Architecture: @grammercydesign Interiors: @studio_mcgrath Photo: @williamwaldronphoto Styling: @mieketenhave
