Yesterday was a very special day. 💫
For the past 6 weeks, @kellendeighton and I created and ran a course called “The Making of a Chair: Fundamentals of Craft and Furniture Production”, through @faumanitoba . The course was in collaboration with @palliserfurniture and @eq3 and required students to design and build chair prototypes — splitting their time working in the faculty woodshop, and directly with the incredible R&D team at Palliser.
Yesterday, we celebrated the result—showcasing each of the 6 chairs and the hardworking students that poured their heart and souls into creating them.
So proud of each and every one of them. 👏

Designed by Nicole Marion after she was inspired by a visit to the doctor’s (not a place you typically associate with creativity), Percy’s chubby tubes and marshmallowy cushions beg to be splashed with colour. Posted @withregram • @idstoronto IDS 2020 Prototype Jury Award winner, the Percy Lounge Chair by Canadian designer Nicole Marion, was officially launched as part of the new @naughtone_furniture collection last week. When the Percy Lounge Chair was featured at IDS Toronto, the jury was taken away by its functional yet stylish design. Inspired by mid-century waiting room chairs, Nicole Marion designed the chair to features classic, uninterrupted flowing lines.
IDS Toronto is proud to be a launching ground and stepping stone for designers. Every year at Prototype we provide some of the best young creative minds of the design industry a platform.

Posted @withregram • @naughtone_furniture Nicole Marion was inspired to design Percy by the sinuous shapes of mid-century waiting room chairs. She started her own experimentations with form and found a chance to also express her love of contrasting materials. The result is a bold, graphic lounge chair made of cool steel and soft upholstery with oversized surfaces for dramatic - or subtle - expressions of colour.
