I’m working on a dinnerware set and I’ve been testing and experimenting for months but now I feel like I’m so close!! 🌑 My plates came out so beautifully! and I’m so excited! Id like to add a bigger dinner plate, a set of bowls, and eventually a carafe/pitcher, teapot, and sake set added to this collection! All in due time..hopefully by the fall or winter :) i’m still trouble shooting some firing and warping issues, an efficient production system, along with some designs. Help me with naming! An unexpectedly fruitful spread 🍊🍎 I explored cooler blue and gray tones in this shoot Contrasting with warmer reds and oranges This shoot was just for fun. I made a small batch of these mugs in an attempt to replicate one I broke (and i foolishly did not update my notes as I made it). This attempt was not successful. I always have a strong desire to destroy my work when they do not fulfill my expectations. I find it cathartic and healing. Practicing letting go and starting fresh. My partner does not agree and always urges me not to. He thinks I'm being dramatic and doesn't like finding my work in the trash bins outside. He'll bring them back inside if he does and he'll be upset that I threw them out.. I think he's being dramatic. You see, in the way of ceramics, there's no other way to see how things will turn out until they've been fired to completion. So similarly to scrapping a bad sketch, I wished to scrap these mugs. But he won this time and I kept them. Not knowing what to do with them I let them sit on my desk for a few weeks and slowly, my disappointment with them washed away and I started seeing them for what they are and started to appreciate their differences and complexities. I finally thought they were actually pretty cool. I started this shoot late at night after I came to this conclusion. I will be giving them away as gifts when the right time comes. Little Belle Vessel w/ a woven grass rim and three little handles. When I threw this guy i poked some holes on the rim not totally sure what to do with it next. I think she sat on my shelf for a while before I found some cool dried grass. I layered the grass and used waxed hemp cord to secure it onto the body. She's a cutie.
