Iāve had a wave of new followers over the past week. Welcome and thanks for being here. For those who are new and might want a bit of context.
My name is Ibi Meier-Oruitemeka (IMO) and I began painting for the first time in May 2024 after what I can only describe as a very specific feeling or āknowingā that I should buy some paints. Iām so grateful that my intuition is something I trust in, as following it has quite literally change my life. Within a few weeks of beginning I was offered my first solo exhibition āSoft Mirrorsā a mammoth challenge and weeks of creating it from my living room. I learned so much and to this day very proud of this body of work that ended up selling out on the opening night. Since then Iāve been fortunate enough to have a second solo show and lots of other incredible opportunities. Cut to the present day and itās only a year and a half of painting behind me. These days I paint from a lovely bright studio and thank my lucky stars because baby Ibi who failed her art a-level and parked any notion of being an artist firmly aside in pursuit of a āproper jobā. Is now living her dream. #trustyourgut š· @ruthsamuelsphoto š¤
Exactly a year to the day since my debut solo show āSoft Mirrorsā opened with the now evolved @bigyingallery to whom I will be forever grateful to for presenting such a daunting proposition literally only a few months after I began painting. Only to sell out by the opening night. All thanks to a chance meeting at @bottlealleyartmarket some weeks earlier. What a year it has been. Iām the most proud of these paintings, all created from my living room with no experience of creating on this scale, way before a ārealāstudio was even on my radar. One and a half years in and itās still very much the beginning, still learning, still discovering. Shout outs to @ruthieruthio@euanrobertsart and @hastingsarthandling for@pulling off a miracle. Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey and continues to champion my art. I can only create what Iām capable of, and art has shown me in real time that our imagination really can create our reality. #softmirrorsoneyear

Meet Ibi!
Based in the UK, Ibi Meier-Oruitemeka, known as Studio IMO is a self-taught artist who first discovered her passion for painting in May 2024. Drawn immediately to acrylics, she found in them a soulful medium for expressive, intuitive work rooted in her British Nigerian identity.

Thank you so so much to all the collectors both old and new who bought work from Sunday evenings drop. Itās not something Iāll ever take for granted and your support of my work means in very real terms that Iām able to continue on this path of creating art. Next week marks 2 whole years since I heard the loud voice of my intuition telling me I needed to go buy some paint and subsequently opening up a whole new phase and chapter of life. I appreciate every single person who has chosen my art to hang in their homes, whether in print form or originals. Itās the wildest compliment & and one of the most genuine honours of my life! š¤šøArtwork pictured ā One More Before You Goā , 2025. 40.6x50.8cm Acrylic on Canvas Board #studioimoart
Making the final selection earlier for my artwork release this Sunday 3rd May, launching at 6pm (BST) a little bit different this time round as all paintings will be framed and ready to hang. Still some time to sign up to my mailing list before Sunday for notifications when the work goes live. Happy May Day weekend to everyone šŖ»šøš«š¤#mayartdrop
Just because youāre known for one thing, doesnāt mean you canāt explore other things. I never want to be locked into a singular perception. This week Iāve been following my whims and deepening my understanding of my self as a artist simply by doing what I want. Freedom is the goal, joy is the outcome! Iāve painted mainly flowers this week simply because they feel good to paint and I learned a little dance in my wrist that suddenly make them feel fun to do!. #flowersdance
