Anglia Square in Norwich turned to rubble, each day a little more gone. I can’t deny the empty skyline is lovely and my only wish is a park with trees and grass would replace the concrete. Wouldn’t NR3 be improved with a well designed arboretum filled with beautiful native trees rather than car parks and uninspiring buildings, which are sure to sprout up and fill the space. Let’s Zine is our recurring workshop where we make our working process and 30 year archive of stuff and shit available for students to remix and remake to form new ideas with the content. This included: 90s riotgirl and 80s pop record covers, philosophy from Terrence McKenna, Guy Debord, David Icke, Bill Hicks, Freedom Press, Prince, quotes, song lyrics, postcards, anatomy reference books, tarot cards, medieval brass rubbings, stickers, postage stamps, patterns, etc… Much of this is created for the workshop and includes Studio GRRR’s: type play, typography, zine extracts, photography, objects, emoji designs, words, drawing and artwork, and much more. Our most recent workshop was formed around the idea ‘AI IS DEAD.’ We began the workshop by talking about what our creative practice is underpinned by: a collection or nexus of personal data points. These are experiences of places, things and people and we described why this informs our work as designers and artists and how this provides a unique and authentic matrix of ideas only we own. It’s important to us to provide a robust critical methodology of how young (newly forming) creatives can develop their own insurance policy against AI SLOP by starting their own LLM - we have reframed this as a LIVING LANGUAGE MEMORY that AI training data cannot penetrate or steal from us because it is not shared or uploaded. This LLM is locked inside our bodies and derived from our senses: Sight, Hearing, Touch, Smell, and Taste (something AI can’t do) which our sophisticated living system turns into memories and knowledge. The beauty of this process is everybody has their own unique starting point for expressing themselves. This is not intended to be an echo chamber of thought but a call for the REVOLUTIONARY PLEASURE OF THINKING FOR YOURSELF. It’s always amazing when a radiant bunch of creatives from @norwichuniarts attend our class and repeatedly come back: Actors, Photographers, Illustrators, Graphic Designers, Fine Artists, Games Designers, Animators, Fashion Marketers, User Experience Designers and Publishers. Big Love to those who attended. WE BELIEVE IN YOU!

AI IS DEAD. We recently talked about creating our own LLM (Living Language Memory) at a talk for Norwich Book Festival. As Artists and Designers, this is what we do. We create our own nexus of data points that we experienced, saw, felt, heard, tasted and thought. The human body processes information in many ways. We smell the rain on our face, taste the sunshine on our lips, experience music through excited goosebumps on our arms. You‘ve got to ”Feel your Way” and “Start believing now that we can be who we are” - messy, complex, flawed, annoyingly wilful beautiful living language memories, wrapped up in ”Skins can you see them, holding us in”. GRRR’s LLM is ours and ours alone, we made it over the course of 53 years and counting. It has many points of data that AI will never perceive or receive. Our advice: Don’t delay, start yours today and get a free gift: Self-respect and abundant love from the creators of the future. Tell your story with Imagination, Intuition and Empathy. This is what we teach our students. We care what they think and the connections only humans can make through living, loving, being. Artists, designers rise up and say NO to Artificial Intelligence. Protect our young creators from the empty promises of the Tech Bros. They Lie. Thank you: Olivia Newton-John, Scissor Sisters and Frankie Valli. Typeface: Caslon Italian by @commercialtype

Mr. Wensum floats on the surface, his lips pouting with eighties fantastic. Like all good fortune tellers he dispenses wisdom for a moment of fragile attention. Look deep into my eyes. Mu ha ha ha ha haaaah. Film by Glen & Rebecca (aka Studio GRRR)

Bumped into @philfoden on the way to work today. Imagine that. Iconic wrist bandage, new curley hairdo and chuffed with his recent hot streak for @mancity 💙🤍 We love how the Universe conspires with the wind, winter in the northern hemisphere, tree leaves, Margaret Calvert’s walking man painted by a workman to manifest its conscious desire to communicate symbols. Waving hello to our human empathy, intuition and imagination. If you think about it this is true Super Intelligence with no scrolling. Photo by Glen & Rebecca (aka Studio GRRR) December 2025

🧑‍🎄🎄Beautiful old type gifts from 1850. Our study of the archive material informed the typographic direction of Searching for Santa Claus, especially The Little Messenger Birds (Boston: Phillips, Sampson & Company, 1850 Edition). These images show our page designs alongside the research material and faithful page reproductions were used as a pattern break to long volumes of text of the story. As with lots of books created prior to 1900s the craft is beautiful and in this edition there were lots of historical secrets and unexpected type combinations and compositions.

We also undertook a digital restoration of all archive images removing watermarks, page fixing and dust.

Searching For Santa Claus
By Thomas Ruys Smith
For @boilerhousepress

Book Information:

Santa Claus appears throughout popular culture, captivating the imaginations and shaping the wishes of millions of children across the world – but he only came into focus as a social and cultural icon relatively recently, in the nineteenth century.

This landmark anthology, the first of its kind, traces his evolution. For the first time, it brings together the most influential and pivotal portraits of Santa Claus, revealing how a simple gift-giver developed into one of the most recognised global figures. Through its ground-breaking exploration of stories, poems, and images, it shines a light on the cultivation of Santa as both a vitally important literary figure and a powerful cultural touchstone who stands at the heart of our seasonal celebrations.

🧑‍🎄🎄This is weird 🫶 we designed a 332 page book about Santa Claus. Repeat. Santa. Images from the Printed and Ebook Editions. We researched 1800/1900s newspaper and publication design to inform cover artwork, page design and typesetting. We also undertook a digital restoration of all archive images removing watermarks, page fixing and dust. ❤️❤️ Searching For Santa Claus By Thomas Ruys Smith For @boilerhousepress Book Information: Santa Claus appears throughout popular culture, captivating the imaginations and shaping the wishes of millions of children across the world – but he only came into focus as a social and cultural icon relatively recently, in the nineteenth century.
