Early sketches of a heritage and conservation project we having been working on over the past year in the inner North. There’s a particular joy in working through the tension between heritage controls, building performance and beauty - carefully refining each move until the old and new feel balanced, cohesive and quietly resolved. We look forward to sharing more on how this project has progressed 💫

Our director Kate, Rupert 🐶 & the team recently revisited Kent House. The landscape has settled beautifully around the home, the stone and materials have weathered with integrity, and the renovation now feels quietly enduring, as though it has always been there. A warm, considered intervention, grounded in a rigorous approach to form, material & detail. 🤍 Builder: @omnicon_constructions

A contemporary extension to a Californian Bungalow in Elwood, designed to achieve net zero energy and water consumption. The proposal takes the form of a north-facing garden pavilion, reinterpreting familiar bungalow materials and details - walnut timber detailing, gabled roof forms, leadlights, brickwork and terracotta. We are currently open to taking on similar projects in inner Melbourne. Please reach out for an initial consult on your potential project. Architect + Interior Design: @studio_cobe

2025 was a significant year for Studio Cobe. We’re proud of the projects we quietly began, progressed, and completed. Concept designs, council approvals, and building permit approvals always feel like meaningful milestones - and working with engaged clients and collaborators made those wins even more rewarding. We grew our team, renovated our office, and made thoughtful decisions that set us up for continued progress - and an exciting year ahead in 2026. 💫

At the transition between the old house and the new extension, a sculpted curving stair, formed on site, negotiates the size constraints of the space, and a double-height void brings light deep into the plan. Steps down to the kitchen, living & dining follow the contours of the site. Builder: @tykonbuilders Photography: @jack.lovel Styling: @beksheppard

Sited gently within the sand dunes of the Mornington Peninsula, this alterations + additions project is designed to sit low in the landscape, disappearing from the street. Our focus has been on creating rhythm and cohesion around an existing home, introducing a textural palette that responds sensitively to the natively coastal environment. We’ll be spending time around the Peninsula and Surf Coast over summer, always happy to meet locals considering a future project along the coast.

Beyond the existing heritage facade of this workers cottage, a compact light filled extension is underway in Brunswick. The framing is almost completed, and the site is soon to be infused with colour and personality. Swipe through for progress ->

Connecting the family with their surroundings, windows to each side of the fireplace capture key views of the garden and pool. Varied ceiling heights enrich the atmosphere of different spaces as you move through the home: from the front heritage rooms and hallway, to the living area beneath the high gable, to the kitchen where a flat ceiling has a more intimate sense of space. The highly detailed spaces in our recent proposal for an Elsternwick family home foster calm, effortless living. A palette of high-quality, textural finishes are robust for family life and infuse the home with subtle, harmonious texture. A landscaped pergola between the living area and kitchen provides a vibrant green canopy over the outdoor dining area and filters sunlight through its leaves. Read more on our website, link in bio.
