“The Church of Mining” This composite perspective drawing is a visual summary of the design, scale, and spatial experience of the intervention. Created through a layered digital process - moving from Rhino and AutoCAD into processing, and finally refining in Photoshop - it brings together multiple viewpoints into a single, immersive composition. The aim was to translate not just the architecture, but the atmosphere and symbolism of the space. Set within the historic Florence Mine in Cumbria, “The Church of Mining” is a cultural and architectural tribute to the region’s rich mining legacy. The design weaves together a museum, walking route, and event space, forming a contemporary pilgrimage site that connects people to the land and its industrial history. More than just a building, it stands as a monument to memory, labour, and community—bridging past and future through design. #archwarium #architecturedrawing #architecturestudent #architecture #architectureinspiration

“The Church of Mining” A look at the final structure and layout of my proposal, set within the historic Florence Mine, Cumbria. This 1:200 scale model shows the overall form of the intervention, highlighting how the new elements sit alongside existing site features. The scheme includes a museum, hiking route, and event space — all designed to reflect and celebrate the area’s mining heritage. The model was built using laser-cut MDF and small 3D printed elements, focusing on structural clarity and spatial relationships between old and new. The aim was to create a bold but respectful intervention — a space that acts as a physical reminder of the past, while opening up new ways for the community and visitors to engage with the site.

3.1 - - - “The Church of Mining” is a cultural and architectural tribute to Cumbria’s mining heritage. Set at Florence Mine, a historic iron ore site in Cumbria, NW England, the proposal creates a unique space for the local community and tourists. It combines a museum, a hiking route, and a multi- functional event space, forming a symbolic sanctuary that honours miners and their legacy. By connecting community, landscape, and tourism, “The Church of Mining” becomes a hub that carries this heritage into the future.
