Technica 4 @arch_cambridge opens with an inspiring talk by Prof Dr Olga Iouannou from @tudelft on the pedagogies and research opportunities of circularity in construction. She identified circularity at six scales: materials, components, buildings, neighbourhoods, cities and regions.

Two more brilliant ‘Architect in Studio’ Core Strategies Lectures this week at Manchester School of Architecture @themsarch .
First up, Dr Thom Atkinson (@magnitudeqsltd ) introducing Building Cost Modelling, followed by Phil Etchells (@omiarchitects ) with a spectacular array of drawn techniques to present two fine adaptive reuse projects - including the award-winning Havelock Building in Manchester. So good I had to take a detour down the canal to take another look…
Captivating lecture to our MArch1 group at @themsarch by John Piercy Holroyd and Gemma Birchall from @purcell.architecture , inviting the students to consider the meaning of ‘significance’ as they adapt their existing buildings.
And for the sharp-eyed … yes, that is the Smithson’s seminal Hunstanton School in the first slide.

Yesterday’s third Technica Convention was another triumph, bringing together architectural technology teachers from all over the UK. More photos to follow, but here is our own Prof Rosa Urbano Gutierrez opening the day with a keynote speech on her incredible research into architectural and artistic ceramics.
Challenging, articulate and engaging talk by @sw_arch their remarkable approach to clients, briefs and society as whole. Sarah treated both MArch years to reflections on ethics and architecture from her years in practice. Brilliant stuff.
Captivating Core Strategies talk by an international authority on mass timber construction technologies - @waughthistletonarchitects represented by Senior Associate Alastair Ogle. Great to welcome a talented articulate former student back to the @themsarch …
Alastair is staying on for tutorials this afternoon.
MArch Technology Lead John Lee was invited for a roundtable about collaborations with @hilti and Andres Garcia of major developer @arquitecturayconcreto visiting from Colombia. Thanks to kaulimat and Hilti for the introductions.
Lots of collaborations and exchanges to explore in future…
The new Manchester School of Architecture Materials Lab is now in operation. We will be adding more materials and more information as we receive it from manufacturers. So why not come on down and find inspiration for your detailed design work this Semester?
As part of the MArch1 Core Strategies series @etchellsphilip visits from @omiarchitects to talk about their very fine reuse project: the Havelock Building in Manchester. Along the way we had a fascinating story of process, design development and deep engagement with today’s climate challenges.
