this tile was one of those aha moments… we went on a new york sourcing trip in the fall of 2021 (!!) and as we toured @bddw_etc i opened a drawer to discover 82 hand painted amber tiles left over from a larger installation. the only problem was that we didn’t have a place for them. the client and i looked at each other and no words were needed - we had to have them. we wound up redesigning the first level of their guest house to make the powder bath backsplash fit the 82 tiles perfectly. we had the client mark her favorite tiles from the batch so we could make those the most visible. i hand sorted each tile by category and then arranged them “randomly” (don’t ask me how many hours this took). i numbered each tile and created a custom layout for the installers and then prayed to the heavens that they wouldn’t break or drop any. we sourced an antique sink basin from england and a custom copper faucet from turkey. we decided more was more so we found a zellige color match from @cletile and wrapped the entire room. we found the vintage cafe curtain fabric at @patmcganngallery which hides all of our clients’ art supplies. we did some mixing and matching of hardware styles from @emery_et_cie including mounting some a little wonky because why not? we used our favorite waste bin from @otziltd via @nickeykehoe and our fave hand towels from @halemercantile . it wouldn’t be a party without a high tank toilet with a pull chain which we sourced from @watermonopoly to add that last bit of unexpected charm. all to say, we found some tile in new york. // 📸 @aimeemazzenga

much like creating art, interior design requires patience, instinct, and curation. over the course of four years of design and construction we found and layered pieces throughout this space always trusting that the right pieces would find their way to us. some pieces show up early - before we even know what to do with them, while others show up right at the end and just in time. i actually continue to send this client pieces that i think she would love. to me, a curated and personal space is never truly done. we found the two vintage filing cabinets from @nickeykehoe that our client propped up on left over reclaimed bricks from the fireplace, well-loved stacking chairs were found at @eskandarofficial_ on a sourcing trip in new york, the glass on our clients existing art broke but found a cool home under a @bddw_etc jigsaw piece, the vintage factory table and gustavian high back chairs were found at @galeriehalf while the two vintage double arm sconces popped up on my instagram feed from @obsoleteinc all the way back in 2021!
