with limited rack space it’s awesome to have a compressor that gives you a few different modes / flavors depending on your source material. plus it’s kinda crazy they give you dual mono and mid/side processing so you can use it on individual tracks, full mixes, or for mastering. while I still use plugins for a lot of things, using outboard gear forces you to listen carefully and commit to the coloration you get from the gear instead of tweaking digital knobs endlessly. it’s been quite fun to mess around with (swipe for video of a mix in progress) and since it has dynamic eq and some other features I still have only scratched the surface of all the stuff it can do

Announcing the newest edition to the rack ~ we just picked up a @uaudio UA6176 channel strip for all your tracking needs. It combines a vintage tube preamp and an 1176 compressor so you can dial in analog processing before your audio ever hits the DAW.
So far I’ve used it on vocals and guitar, pushing the preamp into its nonlinear range to get a little bit of extra edge. Swipe right for examples + shout out @theemcrowe for letting me post your raw vocals which honestly sound pretty great already!

hyped to announce some big upgrades to the studio ✨
- monitors are now a pair of @neumann.berlin KH310As. this is a sealed 3 way speaker which is a relatively niche design. I wanted something that would have great LF response without the extra time domain complications you get in a ported speaker - already the biggest issue in a small mixing room. I’m very pleased with the results so far!
- we got an @rme_audio Fireface UFX for better preamps and conversion, plus way more routing options (outboard gear anyone?)
- on the hospitality side, we got a Nespresso machine to help you stay locked in for those marathon sessions ☕️

suffice it to say I’ve been a big @teklife57 fan for over 10 years at this point. The music and deejaying are always on point but also I’ve just had a really good time hanging out with them and seeing how they support each other. One time I was on a bill with @boylannate & he saw I was nervous and gave me a pep talk 😭thanks man.

New gear is here!! We leveled up to a pair of CDJ-2000NXS decks at the studio 💎 while I think there’s a lot of value in knowing how to mix without sync etc, I gotta admit… it feels good 🙈
this model has 95% of the features that the club-standard NXS2’s have, so hopefully these will be a great practice resource for working DJs. plus they are much easier to learn on if you’re a beginner 🌱

one of the channels on our DJM-800 has been down for a while while I waited for backordered replacement part. fortunately it finally arrived and i was able to swap it in last night 🛠️ enjoy this video of my struggling with some tiny screws
p.s. i just got one cdj-2000nxs delivered last night and the other one should be here this week!
