Precarious Waters, 2023 241 pages, 200x270mm 2 years ago, I completed my M.Phil dissertation at @aaschool @projectivecities — an investigation into subaltern identities, water and space. It received a distinction and a commendation from @thesahgb This body of work was a culmination of thoughts and explorations beyond the official year of thesis writing, and the process still continues in new forms. I’m excited to finally share excerpts from this book and other research obsessions I continue to develop. Stay tuned. 💧🪼📨 Cover Image: NASA [Chilika and Nalabana Bird Sanctuary. March 19, 2014]

Note from 18 May 2022 — A psychological fissure in humans relating to water + it’s infrastructure My notebooks are full of these 1-page bursts of thoughts, not always in an academically coherent fashion + full of typos. Looking back, it’s interesting to see certain ideas forming. #architecturetheory #waterpolitics #journal #architecturewriting #precariouswaters

Study drawings for a pavilion in Jardins de Métis The arches, instead of creating singular openings, become the courtyard enclosure; they perform not as portals themselves, but collectively frame the ecological universe within. The standardised arches of the courtyard begin to deform in proximity to the punctuated vegetation nested in-between, transforming the rigidity of spatial archetypes towards an interdependent dialectic of ecologies. Visitors are encouraged to meander over a bed of mulch, navigating through the different types of plants, personalising their path and way of experiencing the garden. Following the punctuated and individualised journey, three seats are placed at distinct corners, allowing for observation and contemplation.  #pavilion #architecture #ecology #courtyards

Plan for a pavilion in Jardins de Métis Courtyard gardens represent the possibility of ecology as an enclosed, yet complex, universe of living matter. Often understood as discrete from natural landscapes, like forests, the pavilion presents the courtyard as an extension of the Jardins de Métis, blurring the wild and manicured. It proposes that the space a courtyard commonly delimits can become part of naturally occurring landscapes - enabling a boundless possibility of ecology. #pavilion #architecture #ecology #courtyards

🌱🍃🌼 Proposal for a pavilion in Jardins de Métis The built environment has historically established a binary between nature and culture, through the division between inorganic and organic matter. The pavilion aims to disintegrate or erode these hard lines between built architecture and nature, by reading ecology through the archetypes of the courtyard and its fundamental element; the arch. The arch performs as a translucent portal, holding a garden together while mediating it with its surrounding natural environment. #pavilion #architecture #ecology #courtyards
