Two Types of Ghosting
Ghosting is one of the most important tools in groove playing.

In this segment from An Intro to Strumbowing, Tracy Silverman explains the two main approaches he teaches: chordal ghosting and melodic ghosting.
With chordal ghosting, you dampen (mute) the strings by laying your fingers over the strings. With melodic ghosting, you lift your finger halfway off the string to dampen it.

On May 8, 2026, the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (@wheelingsymphonyorchestra ) brought the West Virginia premiere of America, to US by @danielroumain (DBR) to the beautiful Capitol Theatre, featuring Tracy Silverman.
Huge thanks to conductor John Devlin, DBR, and the incredible musicians of the orchestra and the community for bringing so much energy, groove, and heart to this music.
A special full-circle moment was sharing the stage with Stephen Weiss (@stephenweiss_ ) one of @tracysilverman students, performing with the orchestra that evening.
And thank you to the amazing Wheeling audience. What a night!

Have you ever seen a Town Hall Cadenza?
Up until last week, neither had we.
Daniel Bernard Roumain’s new work, titled “America, to US,” genuinely puts ~us~ at the forefront, allowing 8 of our very own community members to take the stage and share their thoughts about our home. Representing a wide range of ages, careers, and experiences, the result was a musical snapshot of our beloved community. Backed by the WSO with soloist Tracy Silverman responding, each participant brought such heart and care to their remarks.
Thank you to Marley Hicks, Ella Paras, Carrie Leib, Chase Burdick, Stephen Weiss, Vincent DeGeorge, Susanne Williams, and Peter Jessen for participating in the Town Hall Cadenza. Thank you to DBR for writing a piece that showcases our town, and thank you to Tracy for your collaborative spirit. We won’t forget this experience anytime soon!

What an end to our 2025-2026 season!
Thanks to all who joined us for Take Me Home on Friday night. From Tracy Silverman's masterful performance of DBR's new work, "From America, to US," to Dvorak's Symphony no. 9, the WSYO side-by-side performance to awarding the Spirit of the WSO Award to Dr. Gail Looney, it was a celebration of community and musical excellence, two hallmarks of the WSO's mission.
And with that, our 96th season comes to a close! We are hard at work planning #97, but until then, we are Your Community, in Concert. 🩵💚
