An unfortunate update. Thanks to @dublinfringefest for their support in bringing the show to this stage - it'll get its day! Beyond the Page: Stray Lines Irish Comics Showcase will happen at some time in the future, just not yet. In the meantime, we encourage you to drop by @littledeercomics in Stoneybatter, to take a look at the comics Stray Lines make, or join them for a celebration of the Irish Independent comics community at the next @dublincomicarts on 7 & 8 October in Richmond Barracks, Inchicore.  Our performers: @gretchen.draws @elidasaur @alemercadodraws @comicfoyle

Walk into the theatre and meet comics live! Comic book panels come alive in an atmospheric performance that takes comics, spoken word, mythical Ireland and the rollerskating scene and blasts it together into a… well, you’ll just have to come and see it. Beyond The Page: Stray Lines Irish Comics Showcase at @dublinfringefest Friday September 15th - 20:45 Saturday September 16th - 13:00 & 20:45 at The Lir Theatre, Studio 2. Ticket link in bio Stray Lines is a comics collective that has long been instrumental in growing an independent comics community in Ireland, pioneering events like the Dublin Comic Arts Festival, The Comics Lab, and the Dublin Comic Jam. With Beyond the Page, Stray Lines presents comics live readings, in which 4 comic creators will blend their stories to create rich and immersive landscapes combining sound design, projected drawings, video, costume and dance - and now live rollerskating and music! From the scary to the silly, take a sit and immerse yourself in visual storytelling… including medieval murder ballads adapted by Alé Mercado @alemercadodraws (The Lament for Art O’Leary) and Gretchen Allen @gretchen.draws (Jack O’Lantern, The Wind and The Rain - with live singing), Elida Maiques’ @elidasaur haunting queer rollerskating story Wifwulf, and Katherine Foyle’s @comicfoyle gothic comic Don’t Wake Daddy Patrick. Come with us as we push the boundaries of comics beyond the page, beyond the screen and onto the stage. Doing short conversational portraits with @elidasaur tonight at @allmyfriendspub - it's a fundraiser for @straylinescomics but I think I'm hooked on Elida's format! Wish I'd taken photos of more of the pieces themselves, but I guess you have to be there 😉 catch us NEXT WEDNESDAY JUNE 28 for (probably) our last Pride outing. Locations to be announced 👀 Thanks to everyone who's spoken with us so far! Cherishing your stories ❤️

Come be drawn by us! Over the next week we'll be sitting in at @allmyfriendspub on selected evenings to draw conversations and raise money for an upcoming event in September. Keep an eye on stories for dates & times! This pop-up draw & chat event: two artists sitting at a table, drawing and chatting with whoever wants to talk with them. Together they will select words and sentences from the conversation and generate quick illustrations for them. So excited to be doing this for Pride! Come down and chat to us, get a picture - it'll be self-contained, respectful and fun!

Long Dark Nights: HOME Date and Time: February 5th 4-6PM Location: Online (Zoom link provided by email) Cost: FREE EVENT! Tickets available on littledeercomics.ie (link in bio!) An evening of live comic readings and a short panel discussion, featuring contributors from ‘HOME: An Anthology of Short Comics on Belonging in Ireland Today’. This free event is a reflection on and a celebration of the launch of Dublin Comic Arts Festival’s first independent anthology, published in December 2022 with the support of the Arts Council. HOME is a short comics print anthology of work by artists and writers who have made their home in - or who have a close connection to Ireland - through 12 stories that explore the themes of ‘home’ and ‘belonging’ in Ireland through sequential storytelling, curated and developed from an open call in September 2022. Long Dark Nights events create an online space for comics community, discussion and live performance. Live comic readings are comics, but not as you know them - brought off the page and onto the screen with music, animation and heart. Contributors: Rayne Booth @rbooth_drawings Elly Makem @ellymakes Mariana Rolin @artbymrolin Eireann Lorsung @eireannmor Kathryn McGrane @bull_leaper Nene Lonergan @literallyneongas Feargha De Cléir Ní Chiannaigh & Megan Luddy @fearghadecleir @megan_luddy Fintan Taite @fintantaite Hosted by HOME editor Katherine Foyle @comicfoyle

Pals, buddies, fellow skaters and/or artists of Ireland! Let's make a zine! Maybe like me, you started skating during the pandemic. Maybe you've been at it for years and you're delighted/disgusted to see the parks filling up with newbies. Maybe you don't skate, but have a fun skate-themed short story to tell! IDK, you tell me! Submissions of all kinds welcome, comics or illustration or prose (as long as you've laid it out yourself in a fun way) - we're leaning into an oldschool aesthetic 😎 If you're unsure about your submission, just DM or email, but basically anything goes! Send me your weirdest, queerest, most earnest doodlings on skating. Looking for contributors based in Ireland, but sure get in touch if you're eager to participate from abroad. This is a @straylinescomics publication and we're hoping to launch in person at the next @dublincomicarts at the end of May. There's no fee available for contributors, but any profits we make will be donated to @masi_movement_asylum_seekers Well go on... get your skates on! (I'll see myself out)

Our wonderful panelists! I really wanted to get a sense of how the various facets of small press and indie comics have been trucking along these last two years - from freelancing, relocating, crowd funding and trying to weather a global printing shutdown in the middle of a global pandemic! Excited to hear from representatives of @dublincomicarts @irishcomicnews and @irishcomics as well as freelancers @sarah__bowie and @gavinfullerton (Please forgive the design faux pas that Debbie and Clare's slides say live reading; they're doing both, it's gonna be great! 😅) - @comicfoyle . . . . #thelongdarknights #straylines #illustration #animation #Irishartist #irishcomics #comics #onlineevent
