⏪ Twenty years of TTFF; twenty years of providing a platform for emerging filmmakers! . 📅 2011; Filmmaker Storm Saulter accepts the TTFF/11 Audience Award for Best Feature Film, for 'Better Mus' Come'. . 🍿A powerful, balls-to-the-wall feature directorial debut, Storm's film, 'Better Mus' Come' is a coming of age drama set in Kingston, Jamaica's inner city at the peak of the island's political warfare, culminating in a retelling of the Green Bay Massacre. . 'Better Mus' Come' went on to win multiple awards at film festivals in the Caribbean and the US, and established Storm as a director-to-watch. He has since produced numerous ads, music videos, the feature film, 'Sprinter', and the soon to be released drama series for Sky, 'Possession'. . 📷 Slide 1. Sharing a few images documenting our TROPICAL WHITEOUT exhibition - which has now sadly ended - featuring recent painting and video work by artist Storm Saulter >>> The exhibition Tropical Whiteout drew from our recent resident artist Storm Saulter’s formative years in Negril, Jamaica, where local life collided with tourist fantasy. Featuring new paintings, photography, and video, Tropical Whiteout wove personal memory with cultural critique asking us what lies beneath the sun-bleached surface of paradise. ——————————— Storm Saulter is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker from Negril, Jamaica. The performance of masculinity, dancehall culture, spirituality, tropicality and mortality are some of the facets of the complex social and cultural dynamics of the post colonial Caribbean his work considers. His diverse art practice, which encompasses photography, painting, installation, video and sculpture has been exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, the British Museum, the National Gallery of Jamaica, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Miami among others. In his commercial career he has directed Music Videos for Sean Paul & Sia, Chronixx, Arcade Fire, Protoje and Popcaan as well as two acclaimed feature length films Better Mus’ Come and Sprinter; the latter winning him several awards including Best Director at the American Black Film Festival. Forthcoming is the release of the Sky Studios mini series Inheritance which he has also directed.

✨ The Rhythm of Jamaican Art, London Screening Recap ✨   What an incredible evening at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre for the London screening of The Rhythm of Jamaican Art. Guests gathered to celebrate this powerful documentary which honors the voices of artists from across Jamaica and its global diaspora. Joined by filmmakers like Storm Saulter, who’s FIRST solo show, Tropical Whiteout, just launched at Ruby Cruel in London, made this screening even more special!   The night continued with an engaging Q&A, moderated by Celebrity stylist and owner of Ms. Campbell Brand, Charlene Bent, where audience members shared thoughtful reflections and exchanged ideas with the filmmakers about the evolution of Caribbean art and the importance of cultural preservation.    Each screening brings new energy and conversation to this journey, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us in London. Stay tuned for more international screenings of The Rhythm of Jamaican Art. #TheRhythmOfJamaicanArt #JamaicanArt #CaribbeanArt #Art #LondonScreening #Gratitude #London

PRIVATE VIEW >>> Storm Saulter: Tropical Whiteout. TONITE, October 11th, 6-9pm. 250 Morning Lane, London, E9 6RQ. Storm has been capturing images of Jamaica for decades. His photographic work, different parts casual street observations, documentary style images and commercial work, are all fused into these juxtaposed images. Unexpectedly a portrait of Vybz Kartel meets the formal documentation of an orchid - Jamaican masculinity and the pursuit of celebrity explored in a single composition. Tropical Whiteout draws from our current resident artist Storm Saulter’s formative years in Negril, Jamaica, where local life collided with tourist fantasy. The exhibition examines Jamaican male identity through the tourism industry, particularly its entanglement with sex tourism and the commodification of Caribbean fantasy. Featuring new paintings, photography, and video, Tropical Whiteout weaves personal memory with cultural critique asking us what lies beneath the sun-bleached surface of paradise. ————————————- Storm Saulter is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker from Negril, Jamaica. PRIVATE VIEW >>> Storm Saulter: Tropical Whiteout. TOMORROW night October 11th, 6-9pm. 250 Morning Lane, London, E9 6RQ. Here are a few stills from one of the new works Storm will present, the NEGRILEON NEWS NETWORK which uses footage from his decades-old home video archive overlaid with dated graphics, animations and a personally mixed soundtrack. The NNN takes local island television aesthetics as a visual starting point, skillfully crossing over into those of the music video to discuss subjects such as Jamaican male identity and the commodification of Caribbean fantasy.
