If I can help even one person get out of their head and express themselves in a healthy way, then I am one step closer to walking in my purpose. It’s beyond easy to subject yourself to unhealthy coping mechanisms for short term enjoyment. It takes effort and consistency to actually pull yourself from the depths of your feelings, and you deserve to know someone cares that you do it. I grew up knowing what it felt like to be alone; Alone in my mind, alone in life, alone in learning how to process my feelings. I don’t want other people to feel alone, so this has become one of my solutions. 🩵

Free Ain’t Free finally made it to a gallery as a series, for the first time 🖼️🤎
Grateful for the opportunity to display art in a space that doesn’t reject activism art for its “controversy.” Pancakes & Booze is a great host. Seeing people take time to read and think about the piece warmed my heart. To think this all came from one piece back in 2021. At a time when police brutality was spreading across media like rapid fire, and stereotypes were at a high per usual, I decided to make my classmates uncomfortable for a class project. That project has now bloomed into a series that sheds light on the ignorant stereotypes we as people face everyday. We might not all look the same, or have the same exact struggle, but as one we are stereotyped by the mass of prejudice people.
I think it’s important, especially in today’s times, to recognize and embrace each other. A goal vital to oppressors is division. If there was ever a time for us to come together and realize that, it’s now. Unity is a prayer I call out every night. If my pieces have any effect, I hope they help people realize how crucial unity truly is.

Challenge: this was my first time shooting while the sun was setting. I typically avoid direct sun light shoots just because it tends to have a yellow/orange overcast, so editing these was a little challenging — keeping in mind skin tones while also trying to minimize the yellow/orange overcast. Still feel a little over saturated to me BUT now I know.

Where speaking another language, shopping at specific stores, or working jobs others refuse to take gets you detained.
Where blood sheds, tears fall, families are ripped apart, and all the uneducated, privileged have to say is “this is exactly what I voted for.”
They voted against humanity; in favor of hate and fascism. They voted against equal rights, against the “American dream” of coming here for safety. To start a better life. To be free.
But how can any of us be free when we are discriminated against for looking/sounding different, racially profiled while minding our business, or even killed when asking for help? Freedom is nonexistent without humanity. Humanity is in all that understand we are one.
