šØ Click the link in our bio to demand that
@la_dotd conduct a safety assessment of the proposed reactivation of the industrial tracks from the Alabo Street Wharf.
Did you know thereās been NO MODERN REVIEW of the risks the industrial tracks pose down St Claude Ave and through our #Lower9 neighborhoods?
Yet, in just three weeks, two trains operated by
@norfolksouthern collided with vehicles in Chalmette.
On March 23, an 18-wheeler hit a train.
On April 7, another train struck a vehicle, shutting down major roads.
Thankfully, no one was injured. But the question is: what happens next time?
If
@portnola ās plans move forward to use the Alabo Street Wharf as a grain terminal, trains would run down neighborhood streets, just feet from peopleās homes.
That means:
⢠Increased risk of collisions at 22 crossings without gates
⢠Trains navigating tight curves on narrow residential roads
⢠Grain dust that can become combustible where children play
⢠Reactivated tracks that havenāt been used this way in decades without a modern safety review
This wouldnāt just impact one neighborhood. Rail traffic along St. Claude would affect communities from the #LowerNinthWard through #Chalmette.
This level of change demands careful review. Join us to keep our neighborhoods safe!
