OURFC is incredibly proud to introduce your new Women*s Captain for the 2026/27 season, Mel Morley.
A proud member of @stjohnsox , Mel earned her first Blue at the 2026 Varsity Matches and had this to say about her CaptaincyâŚ
âThis club has been such an integral part of my university experience and I canât wait to give backâ
âGlobally, Womenâs rugby is in an incredibly exciting place and in Oxford itâs no differentâ
âCompetition for Varsity selection across the section has never been more competitive and it shows the positive direction we are headed inâ
âWe have had record-breaking success this season across all three women*s squads and I want to continue that momentum off the back of Chloe-Marie and previous captainsâ hard workâ
âMy aim is to push this group to their full potential, whilst ensuring the longevity of the club such that the Varsity trophy remains in Dark Blue hands long after I graduateâ

Last week, we hosted a new Academic Excellence Summit, organised jointly by students in the @stjohnsoxmcr and @clarendon_ou from across the collegiate university.
Research presentations in a variety of imaginative formats, including three-minute âlightningâ talks, 4-Minute TED-style presentations, and creative performances, were followed by a black-tie dinner in the hall and drinks at the @lambflagoxford , providing opportunities for informal, interdisciplinary conversation.
We hope that this will be a regular event in the College's calendar and look forward to next year's summit!
What happens after the ending? đ
Lia, one of our Human Sciences students, shares how Margaret Atwoodâs The Testaments captured her imagination, and why dystopian fiction can resonate with readers everywhere.

Thinking of doing some gardening this Bank Holiday Monday? Now our students can too đż
Introducing the new SJC Wellbeing Garden!
This is a quiet, tranquil space where students can take a break from academic life and get hands-on with simple tasks like watering and weeding.
Designed to support wellbeing, the garden offers a chance to step outside, reconnect with nature, and focus on something practical and grounding with no deadlines and no pressure.
STEP into the Cosmos! đ
Today, #InternationalSpaceDay, Professor Katherine Blundell has launched STEP into the Cosmos, a free web app designed to make science more accessible, engaging, and inclusive for everyone.
Now available in English and isiXhosa, with more languages on the horizon - because science should speak your language.

26th April 2026: We had the pleasure of welcoming the wonderful Millicent Chapanda, who treated us to the joys of Zimbabwean music through the spiralling, hypnotic songs of the mbira dzavadzimu and the nyunga nyunga. She filled the St John's College Auditorium with grace, humour and beautiful Shona music - what a perfect way to start the Trinity Term. Special thanks to our brave friend Doug, who came to the concert expecting to be an audience member, and ended up as our new favourite hosho player!

Iâve been working with jazz pianist @samuelboateng_music on a new project documenting the journey he is taking as he records his new album. Samuel is a next level musician and watching him play with his band is, quite frankly, frikkin brilliant.
I love this set of portraits from his recent performance at @stjohnsox because they feel contemporary and classic at the same time . And that is Samuel! I highly recommend catching his next show
