After the awful news yesterday all I feel is heartbreak for Ricky’s family and his friends. Beyond the incredible sporting achievements, his biggest success was being a great friend and Father (and Grandfather) to the ones he loved the most. For me, it’s a an important lesson to really cherish every moment and to deeply value the words of people who have decided to tell their story and truth. Ricky always said he was incredibly proud of his story and I feel very lucky to have joined him on that ride. You had so much to live for Ricky, I wish I told you that. There was only one Ricky Hatton ❤️
Feel very proud of this series and for everyone who worked on it. Picks of the week and days across the board makes us feel like some have seen what we hoped to achieve.
We made this with the integrity required to do justice to the families stories. We couldnt shy away from the stark reality of the horror but we absolutely had to make sure we captured the beauty of the people who were lost and the lives that were damaged. We always said that we wanted to bring the biggest audience possible and make them come away with a different PoV and something to think about after the series is finished. I hope we did our contributors justice but I know we did everything we could to channel the empathy we had through to our audience.
This series has people who have never spoken before, audio never heard before, video never seen before and an approach with archive that hopefully shows the ripple effect of trauma and that people can move on with their lives, no matter how painfully, and let the beauty of the people who have been lost shine through.
I’m blessed to have worked with new colleagues and old colleagues. I never expected this job to have pushed me and tested me the way it has but I’m extremely grateful to have worked with so many talented friends.
