RED BULL FORD POWERTRAINS
A launch film and subsequent midform documentary for @redbullracing@fordracing
In 2020 Honda pulled out of Formula One. Red Bull Racing were left with a bunch of undesirable options - Sign with an engine partner who they hadn't had great results with in the past, or leave the sport. Instead they did the unthinkable - build their own powerunit - something no customer team had done in Formula One before.
Initially commisioned to make a launch promo for the season launch event in Detroit, the story had so much depth that Red Bull wanted a longer version to drop just before the Melbourne F1 GP.

Social spot for the already well received feature doc I directed which premieres on Sky Docs on Sunday.
This is the story of how Russell King managed to take over a football club, a London bank and nearly take over the Sauber F1 team - all in aid of extracting all of the mineral rights of North Korea based on fake money. This is despite having caused chaos and defrauding half the island of Jersey.
There's a major twist in this, which you'll have to see it to believe it. Working closely with the excellent Robbyn Swan, Tony Summers and Matt Scott - as well as Dr Kevin Dutton - we can truly reveal how a conman can trick pretty much anyone into getting what they want.
Thanks to Matt Lorenzo, Daniel Sharp, Jack Oliver and Sam Cryer for getting me on board.
To Will Stone for being an excellent producer, Sam McMulkin for the edit (again), all the shooting crew, Mark from Evos for the grade, Yas, Rob and all at Dash as well as Alex for coming in and getting the drama sorted with me.
Sixteen years in the making, King of Lies premieres on Sky Documentaries, at 8 on Nov 16.
The story of a trillion dollar fraudster who took on Kim Jong Un, an F1 team, Notts County FC, the Head of Military Intelligence, Sol Campbell and Sven Goran Eriksson. Oh, and me too.
😂“Mum, language!”
Our brand-new Kermode on Film podcast is OUT NOW featuring this hilarious moment during our MK3D live show, when Sally Phillips (@sallysmack ) gets a gentle telling-off from her son Olly.
In this episode: ⚽ Sally and @mightypenguinsfilm director, Louis Myles, join Olly and Charlie – two brilliant young people with Down’s syndrome – to talk about their football documentary. And they discuss the documentary OTTO BAXTER, NOT A F*** HORROR STORY.
🎬 Producer John Battsek (WHAM!, THE DEEPEST BREATH) shares the films that inspired him, and recounts working on his recent projects.

Whilst it was very touching to be asked to play in the authors cricket club @authorscc cricket match at @hayfestival I did face some fundamental problems.
1. I am not an author (apparently filmmaking/scriptwriting counts)
2. I am *really* dyspraxic
3. Anyone who has seen me play any sport will know that I'm best not playing any sport
4. I own no cricket whites
5. The closest thing I did own hasn't been worn for about 2 years and now needed a belt, which I did not bring with me
6. Middle age has been beset with back, calf and fucking everything injuries - highlighted with the fact that I did my back in stopping a ball with my foot at no miles an hour.
Anyway, it was a fun afternoon and was lovely to meet the actually good cricket players and connoisseurs.
Surviving 2.5 overs, is metaphor for middle age.
