South Texas brush country. Mesquite, coastal sand, and grass gone gold from a long dry season. The nilgai came here a century ago, shipped in from India.
The terrain suited them well.
No native predator learned their shape. No winter cut their numbers.
A conservation hunt is not a trophy. It is a ledger entry. You make the shot clean, and you stand a long time after with the animal at your feet; not in celebration, but in the old reckoning every working landscape asks of the people who love it. The herd, thinned one by one, runs truer.
Blessed to get an invite. The work was done.

Simple rules really: You shoot it, You eat It.
Went out a few nights ago with @terry.houin and @trentwhitesell12 to harvest a long overdue free range Texas bull elk (yes, they exist in the wild), after a badass week at @elfortindelacienega with @allterraarms@the_precision_collective and @hornady .
Got on a few animals at sunset and didnât have a confident shot in the low light; so we bailed.
Got up again the next morning and headed out. Quickly the bulls were chattering like crazy and we located one at about 1150-1200 yards. Moved within 550 of his location at that time and built up a solid shooting position whilst sitting criss-cross-applesauce with a dozen cactus in my ass cheeks.
After 25 minutes, a piss break by @terry.houin , some âwait! Donât you dare squeeze the trigger yetâ, and some double-tug eagle eyes, he went down in place. Quickly.
Success.
Hundreds of pounds of meat for the family, great stories, earning what you want, and delivering what you promise. Wouldnât have had it any other way.

Was super honored to get invited to spend last week up in South Dakota with @terry.houin for a week of long range shooting and Praire dog hunting with @the_precision_collective .
Spending time honing perishable skills under the guidance of a true expert is a tremendous blessing. The instruction, the facility, and the peers were all top notch on a level that will be hard to beat.
Thank you Terry for a badass week I wonât forget anytime soon!!
