I’ve spoken to so many of you beautiful folx here online, in the street, in the ocean, under the stars, at the sweaty rave, on a plane, in a steam room, in the park, in a straighto potato bar, at the theatre, during a concert, at the Pride Centre actually everywhere I go
What links all your different faces across all these varied spaces is a deep sense of longing. A shared energy of a past happiness and beloved presence. A connection to a person, a queerdo show, a favourite song we experienced in THE sacred space we built together over a decade of time
People are pining for that unique feeling we felt when we were held, physically, emotionally, spiritually
A fever dream that goes on forever
There is a glowing light inside all these testimonials. The longing isn’t pain, it’s magnificent pleasure.A reverse grief. A joyful ache
There is an aura of incompleteness, a queer desire unfulfilled — that ideal state of being-with each other that we know so intimately, better than we can explain
If you’re feeling this, you certainly are not alone. That search brings you to the park next Sunday
To resolve this vibe, my sisters at
@effemme______ & I are making a broadcast party in the gorgeous Sydney Park. A futurist and deeply retro conceptual sound picnic
Gather your chosen kin. Stock up on delicious snacks and charge your Bluetooth / portable speaker. Any device with an aux input jack will do. We’ll have cute receivers for loan by donation, tuned to receive the broadcast from our decks, played by your beloved Queerbourhood DJs
A decentralised queer picnic-doof
A post school reunion
A tea party
A healing happening
A community necessity
Effemme is a medicine for that yearning, that craving to reconnect with our chosen Queerbourhood family
We’ll gather beside the Gilbanung Wetland, the far opposite side of Sydney Park chimneys, near the lower pond, just down from the gay beat.
Bring a picnic blanket, something /someone to sit on, food to share, moves to make & stories to tell
There are clean toilets, water bubblers, green grass to lie on, shade trees, places to dance vertically or horizontally, maybe even a snake in the grass somewhere
